- Western Kentucky coach Ray Harper has resigned.

It is unknown whether Harper's resignation is related to the suspensions of Hilltopper players Fredrick Edmond, Marlon Hunter and Chris McNeal following a hearing Wednesday night by the school's disciplinary committee. No specifics about what rules the players violated were mentioned in a release Thursday night.

The 54-year-old Harper was 89-64 in five seasons with WKU, including 18-16 this year. Under Harper, the Hilltoppers won Sun Belt Conference Tournament championships in 2012 and 2013 to automatically qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

This has got me thinking alot... Maybe I need to send some applications to a division 2 or 3 school since I am out of work and explain to them as a kid I applied to Appalachin State, East Carolina, and Wake Forest I also had CoachK as my agent. I wonder if it'll hurt my agreement with Jeff Compher the ad at Ecu?!?! Or when I move to the beach with my family I can work my way up and volunteer again for basketball at the local rec center which is what I want to do in the long run. I want to eventully coach a team as it will also help fund my business that I plan to make as well.

A person familiar with the decision says Steve Pikiell of Stony Brook has been hired as Rutgers' basketball coach. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Saturday because the university has not announced the decision.

Pikiell led Stony Brook of the America East Conference to a 26-7 record this season.

Rutgers athletic director Pat Hobbs had a hard time filling the job. Danny Hurley of Rhode Island and Mike Lonergan of George Washington were his top choices but both asked to be removed from consideration.

Pikiell led Stony Brook to six 20-win seasons in the last seven years and had the Seawolves in the conference championship game four times before finally winning this year. The former Connecticut point guard took over the program in 2005 and didn't have a winning season until 2008-09.

The Pikiell hiring is, at least currently, being recieved well by the NJ press. He comes with a glowing reccomendation of Jim Calhoun which is being viewed as a strong positive.

TCU is “closing in” on a deal with Pittsburgh coach Jamie Dixon, Mac Engel of the Fort-Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Dixon, 50, is under contract with the Panthers until the 2022-2023 season and is among the highest paid coaching in college basketball.

TCU is prepared to at least match Dixon’s current contract in the hopes of drawing him away from Pittsburgh after 13 seasons coaching the program.

Dixon played four seasons at TCU from 1984–1987 before being drafted by the Washington Bullets in the 1987 draft.

I really hope Buzz Williams doesn't go to Oklahoma State or TCU, he has made a huge turnaround for VT and I finnaly hopeful again that Tech can become a regular competitor in the ACC and in the country, Whit Babcock the VT AD has shown that he is prepared to spend some money, what TCU and OK St. Has on tech is that Williams is from Texas and Oklahoma, he might want to return home.

a date to keep an eye on for Buzz (if he's OSU's pick) is March 24th. On the 24th his buyout clause drops from $3.5 million to $1.5 million
