Future Division-2 Realignment... Giant List... Topic

So I know we're not doing realignment, but just in case at some point in the future it becomes feasible, maybe we can use the Div-2 Realignment I put together below as a template.

From what I could figure out, and this may be off a little or a lot…
- In real life:
- Division 2 has 311 schools.
- 309 of these schools are in 23 conferences.
- 2 schools are independent.

Again, in real life:
- 311 real life D-2 schools.
- 248 of these schools are currently in HD Div-2.
- 6 schools used to be in HD Div-3, but have upgraded to Div-2 during the period since HD was created.
- 57 schools were not in HD at all, either because they were left out the first round, or because they started new programs in Div-2 during the period since HD was created.

- In current HD:
- Division -2 has 276 schools.
- 248 of these schools are still currently in real life Div-2.
- 28 of these schools have either upgraded, downgraded, or collapsed.

So the way my realignment runs:
- there are still 23 conferences (a couple have different names).
- 12 teams per conference.
- 276 total schools were used, of the 311 in real life Div-2.
- 35 real life Div-2 schools were not used.

- 255 schools are in their correct real-life Div-2 conference.
- 21 schools were placed in a different conference than in real life (indicated in the list in CAPITAL LETTERS)... EDIT-- 24 schools are in different conferences compared to real life now, because I placed the three Puerto Rico schools in the Pacific West to keep the cool PR schools.

I think Upper Iowa is the only one placed crazily out of their geographic area.

West Chester is pretty far out too. That's on the eastern side of the state. I'd swap them with Lock Haven or California (PA). One of the state schools out near Pittsburgh

I would think most people want to play in 2016--not 2002.

Id be a little bummed if chestnut hill moved to D2 since i play with 4 other friends in the same conference.

But updating conferences does make sense.

Hate to move Palm Beach Atlantic to DII. It is such a unique DIII location.

Why did you kill the three Puerto Rico schools? I think they should stay.

Hey gomiami,
Yeah, I want to work the Puerto Rico schools in. I looked at an end of season Div-2 Standings page, but didn't find any of them listed, not even under Independents (only Oakland City and Bluefield State were shown as indies). I would have placed the three PR's back in the Sunshine State, but that conference is in the process of adding Palm Beach Atlantic and Embry-Riddle as 10th and 11th teams. With the final 12th spot I had a chance to place Stillman, which is the 13th team in the SIAC and was without another compatible home.

I could stuff the 3 PR's into the Pacific West, creating a kind of cool cross-country grouping... the Pacific West has a bunch of teams that would be new to HD, but maybe we can dump Concordia Irvine (joined Pac West in 2015), Fresno Pacific (2012) and Cal Baptist (2011), to make room for Rio Piedras, Bayamon, and Cayey.

Holy Names (founded 1868 in Oakland), Azusa Pacific (founded 1899 east of Pasadena) and Point Loma (founded 1902 in San Diego) joined the Pac West in 2012 (later than Cal Baptist), but those 3 have been around longer by at least 50 years.

Ok, the PR's are in the Pac West now.
