fastbreak offense Topic

I am really liking this offense with the new engine because of the way the new engine increased fouls. I am avg. 29 drawn fouls a game by playing this offense. Big improvement. Recruit ATh,SPD/FT and you got yourself the new magic set. I'm tellin ya. I belive my team and Pepperdine who also runs the fastbreak is leading the way. My IQ's are not even that good.

Your D1 team?

Your first 5 opponents have a combined record of 3-22 !!!!

I wouldnt read too much into your early stats yet.

Yeah, you played 3 winless sim ai teams that would lose to div II teams. The 1 human you beat is decent, but still fairly young and you had them at home. These teams will show you nothing about how your team is, unless you lost to them and all that'd show is you are as bad as most div II teams. Keep in mind, your portland st team was losing to a div III program who likely won't even make the NT.

I've noticed the same thing at other levels.

LOL. Fact of the matter is, the way the new engine is set up to increase fouls, Fastbreak offense draws more than any other. Not just my team, look at Pepperdine and others that run fastbreak on how much fouls they are drawing and could win games because of it. The new engine has increased fouls dramaticaly.

Does it draw more fouls, or just increase total possessions resulting in more fouls?

Excellent question Dave, according to Jagged... either way it is more fouls so its the "magic" set...

5 games in, my FB/FCP DIII UW-Superior team is averaging 38 FTA per game on 30.6 drawn fouls per game.

Regarding the # possessions - I track the # of possessions with a crude formula for all of my teams (FGA - Off Reb + FTA/1.9 + TOs). In over 50 seasons, I've only averaged 80+ possessions per game once.  In the first five games this season against good competition, I'm averaging 92 possessions per game. Granted, I haven't played a slowdown team yet, but that still is quite a difference. I'll continue to track.

Sheer curiosity -- where'd you come up with that crude formula? (you can sitemail me the answer if you want so that the original thread doesn't get diverted) I'm intrigued by the FT/1.9 element in the equation.

Good stuff trey.  That's stuff seble needs to know, at least i it continues.  For some reason, I was OK with the press in the old engine (even though I never played it).  But my observations on the fastbreak so far in this engine are that it could potentially get me to stop playing at D2/D3, which have always been my favorite.  These ridiculous foul numbers are ruining the game, imo.

Me too, if you don't mind.

(FGA - Off Reb + (FTA*.436) + TOs) is what I use. . . .

With .436 comign from some statistical analysis book that said that was about how many possessions a FTA represented, and I don't remember the book anymore.

Pomeroy uses FTA*.475

More by guess and by gosh than anything. I wanted to eliminate offensive rebounds from representing multiple possessions, but factor in FTA and FT% including missed bonus opportunities. The 1.9 was the number where I could get my offensive and defensive possessions (which should be the same) to most closely match.

That's cool -- appreciate the explanation!
