New Loop Hole in Circumventing Promises? Topic

I have a player I promised 10 mpg to in recruiting.  However, we are so bad that I haven't been able to get him the minutes.  He has played only 6 out of 9 games, and is averaging 8.5 mpg in those 6 games.  I have basically taken him off the depth chart for right now, due to a tougher non-con.  Anyway, he isn't complaining about minutes at all.  And I think part of the reason is that his per game minutes are still acceptable (85% of the promise) to him and the new engine doesn't figure DNP - Coaches Decision into the promises equation (this wasn't really a problem in the old engine because the depth chart was terrible).  Anyone else seeing this?  Probably should have brought it up after the season!!!

I think its always been like this, someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Hmm then this is a problem.  I think it used to be this way due to injuries, but that doesn't make sense that you can promise a guy 20mpg and play him 20 min in game 1 and then bench him the rest of the year.

In the old engine, you didn't have the ability to keep a player from playing.  Even when you left guys off the depth chart, they would find ways to play.  When they do not play, whether due to coach decision or injury, it does not affect the per game averages.

if you are "so bad" it would seem to me that it'd be easier to get him the minutes.  i think it is easier to play the young guys when your team stinks, especially in DII & DIII, because HCA doesn't fluctuate so much with losses.   it'd be harder to play the guy if you guys were doing well as you'd want to lean on your vets.

to avoid him potentially complaining, you could do this - play him a lot in the games you are likely to lose but play your best guys in the winnable games to maximize your seed for the conference tournament.  he'll probably get 10 minutes a game this way.

...and some players just leave without a word.

I think we are missing the point now....  This is a loophole to avoid having to fulfill promises...

So, let me get this straight? My client promised to play the student-athlete 20 minutes per game. He played the subject student athlete 20 minutes per game for one game and then he placed this student-athlete into study hall so that he might be able to focus on his school work. Now, this student athlete is complaining, despite the fact that there is not any option that specifies the number of games that he might play. Sounds to me like this student athlete is flouting society's contractural conventions. That's totally inappropriate. It's lewd, vesivius, salacious, outrageous!
