Getting Away with Booster Gifts Topic

Seble mentioned Calipari in another thread and it got me thinking about how often coaches in RL get away with this type of cheating while in WIS, it is rare that someone slips through the system. Now, I understand that coaches work hard for their recruits and it would suck if booster gifts were responsible for losing a recruit, but I think the idea of making it easier to get away with giving out booster gifts (not drastically, but a little closer to reality) should be opened up to public discussion so seble can hear what the people want.

I for one think that if it were made a little easier, it would be good for the game because a team in lousy conference could get lucky and become the UMASS of whatifsports. They could have there run, but eventually if they continued to cheat, it would catch up with them. For some, it would be worth the risk. This is a big part of real college basketball and it should be considered strongly by seble.

If anything booster gifts should be removed from HD

except that Tark world should allow booster gifts, with hardly any penalties

YOu see all of the people that fail at it, but do you see any listing of those who succeed?

I think, if you really read between the lines, that more teams get away with it than you realize. I mean, with the stigma attached, would you tell everyone if you got away with it and improved your team drastically?
Heck, check out little old Colgate in Naismith. That coach took over his first DI team, they're a D-, and by his 3rd year they go 22-4, lead the nation in scoring and are on their way to the NT for the first time in 15 seasons. I'm just saying...

I did that at Vermont in Allen, except for the lead the nation in scoring thing.  No boosters.

You can take a d range school to the nt in 3 years if you recruit carefully, and w/o boosters.

That's a good point, but I still believe that so many coaches get caught, while in RL, only a small percentage are caught.

The % that get caught greatly exceeds those that get away with it.  As it sits now in its current state it cost more to use them then to not.  They definitly need to be revamped and I have used them and been caught and gotten away with them

i only know of 2 coaches who have not been caught, but i'm sure there are many more.  an uneducated guess of mine would be that less than 5% get away with it.

I have used them and continue to.  I have been caught one time and that was when I was "testing the limits" so to speak.

Whatever happened to the "outlaw" conference?

I'd have no problem admitting I used booster gifts if I ever got away with it.  Heck, "cheating" is way more difficult than winning without boosters.

The ramifications are much different here than irl therefore they shouldn't hold the same weight.  IRL it's potentially career ending and certainly damaging at the very least.  In HD they aren't going to turn away $11.  Comparing booster gift availability in HD to RL is not relevent unless using them has similar ramifications.  I wouldn't be sad to see them go.

That's a good point, but I believe that if you are good at it IRL, then it doesn't damage your team. (i.e. John Calipari) He bolted from UMASS and then Memphis. Soon he'll be bolting outta Kentucky cause everywhere he goes, he pays his recruits. He's a slimeball and if people in WIS new a coach that was doing this, they might be upset at him, but if he's happy with himselve, then so be it.
