So should I go uptempo against a press team with a lot of C iqs and 3 walk-ons. They play slow down so should I take the tempo up and try to get the starters to foul out?

By the way they do have me somewhat outmatched they are more like a mid major than a low d1 team like me.

The players' guide has a sentence that uptempo teams "have more problems" against the press. I don't know if there's any truth behind that statement now in the new engine, but I've always avoided going uptempo vs. the press "just in case."

Given the shortened bench and the lower press IQ's though, you might be onto something. How do your speed and athleticism numbers compare?

As a general rule if you are playing a superior team slow it down, you are more likely to get a fluke victory.

Not that PeteC really has that much experience in this area, since he, you know, dominates.

Two opposite factors

uptempo means more possessions which means that the final results are more likely to reflect the real balance of the ability of the two teams

BUT

uptempo means that the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th guys will get more minutes - if your 7th-10th guys are better than his you might want to do this

On the other hand if the depth edge for you is small and his starters are a ton better, you might want to go slow, try some weird stuff and hope it works

with 3 walk-ons, and the new engine's stamina effects on press, I would absolutely go uptempo (I am assuming here that the talent differential isn't massive).  If you get him in foul trouble, you can really cause some problems.

Does uptempo now affect the defending team's stamina?

PeteC, I would guess that every single team that you play against goes slowdown, in a desperate and ultimately fruitless attempt to avoid being dominated.

Always did.

I went up tempo and had 2 of his 3 guards foul out. It was absolutely the right call. While uptempo might not effect the defending team it does give them more possessions which does for sure.

Actually in the new engine going uptempo against the press might work in your favor except against really experienced teams with high iqs as you are likely to get a lot more fouls and players to foul out. I know how I roll down the road.

Caveat:  It can work if your offensive IQ's are better than their press IQ's
