Why does this guy suck so bad? Topic

I know he's not the best player ever, but it's also not like I'm playing 100/100/100 guys every night.  And he's underperformed pretty much his whole career.

I use him at (0), and he is almost never my main scoring option unless I'm playing against a 2-3.  Anything I can do to help him succeed against lesser-talented defenders?

You leave his distro set at 0 or are you saying you have his 3pt tendency set to 0?

3-pt tendency, sorry.  His distro is usually between 6 and 10 (out of 30-40 or so that is usually on the court)

Its odd because he should be a better outside shooter but he is only making 1 a game.  Part of the issue is well over half of his shots are from 3.  He needs to take more inside shots and mid-range shots to open him up from outside.

I don't disagree, cburton.  But then I would have to put him at (-1), and I don't think that makes sense with a 91 per guy.  Also, looking around at guys with similar ratings, they all seem to take as many 3s but shoot a much higher percentage (and again, I'm talking about over the past two or three years).

As an aside, has anyone else noticed that guys are taking more three on (0) or (-1) 3-pt setting than they used to?  I can't even put guys at (+1) without them taking all of their shots from downtown.

It might be just me, but I rarely have any guys set at 0, particularly high ATH/SPD guys like this one.

So you would go -1?

That seems to be the majority opinion, and among good coaches nonetheless.  OK, I'll try that, thanks!

2 things I see that could be dragging down his #s slightly:

1) His stamina is maxed out at 68.  I've noticed my players whose stamina don't get to 70-75 or higher tend to perform much worse than their ratings would indicate.
2) This guy probably started out with a WE in the low 30s, meaning his IQ is slightly worse than other comparable players.

I'm not saying this guy should be this bad; he, in theory, should be very good.  However, in the WIS SIM, I believe these 2 reasons are contributing to hurt his numbers.

actually put his 3pt tendency at +2, doesn't sound like it'll work, but it will............and i think he needs to shave 3 to 4 minutes of game time and you'll get a better result. can't shoot if you are tired all the time.

Regarding his 3pt tendency, I never set guys at +1 or +2, but I would leave this guy at 0 unless you are facing a defense obviously geared at shutting down PER (i.e. a m2m or FCP +2 or +3, 3-2 zone, or a 2-3 zone +3).

Although Lindahl is shooting very poorly from beyond the arc in the 7 games this season, for his career he is a 35.7% 3pt shooter but only 41.3% from beyond the arc.  Because of the extra point each time he makes a 3pter, it's clearly better for him to shoot a lot of 3s (which is why I think he should remain at 0 instead of -1 in most games), especially in the new engine where 3pt shooting %s appear to be a bit higher.

He's a 36% 3 point shooter and since his freshman year is only shooting 32%.  What are you talking about here summerteeth?
7/21/2010 5:35 PM
That's a great point about the stamina guys, thanks.  The biggest part of the problem is that I blew recruiting the past two years and have four walkons.  But that makes perfect sense.

the -1 thing is definitely not the majority opinion for a guy like that. maybe the majority in this thread, but the majority opinion is definitely to leave him at 0.

one of the biggest changes of the new engine is to increase the impact of fatigue. as mentioned above, your guy is getting hammered for this reason. probably doesn't fully explain his performance, but it explains a lot of it.

I hope my statement didn't sound like I thouht -1 was the answer. I would leave him at 0 but adjust hissetting to fairly fresh, or put him at Getting Tired but have him come off the bench.

that's what i said - he is a 35.7% 3pt shooter (but 41.3% overall).  he may have been worse since his freshman year from beyond the arc, but both in 3pt % and overall FG% - i think a lot of it is attributed to stamina since he's not coming off the bench playing only 15 minutes/game anymore.

my point was this - his 3pt shooting % overall is high enough where we this guy should normally be set at 0, not -1.  if he was shooting 35.7% from 3 but 50% overall, it might be worth going -1 a little more, but his statistics indicate shooting 3s more often than not.
