Before the apocalypse happened, whoops... Before the engine change happened, the lowest work ethic that I thought was acceptable (for DIII and DII benchers) was right at 30. It was tolerated (though not enjoyed) because typically the combination of some playing time and generally low beginning attributes were enough to produce some okay initial improvements; also, knowing that WE would gradually increase never hurt.

However, now that the world is doomed to eternal darkness... I mean, now that the beloved Wooden is running the new sim, I find things to be a bit different when it comes to underclassmen inprovement. The player in question is a tempermental yet misunderstood PF with a 32 WE that averaged 11.9 minutes per game and has average potential in all attributes except for PE and BH. Despite the playing time and practice distributions that had previously been successful, the largest improvement of any signifance for this specific player was a +3 in ATH.

In my HUMBLE opinion, the previous engine wouldn't produce the underwhelming results of +8 in core attributes and an overall increase of only 19 (which is equal to the number of my fingers and toes combined -- which reminds me, don't immediately put-on a hooded sweatshirt you buy from a merchant in Seoul, South Korea without having thoroughly inspected it first). It is okay if the engine has changed, I just want to be sure so I know how to adjust my recruiting as required.

So, since I'm a man of science, I was wondering if anyone else had come to a similar and/or contrasting opinion after having observed, recorded, retested, and thoroughly analyzed all data available? Plus, don't be too afraid buy anything from street vendors in Seoul, they are very nice people, and I thankfully still have all my little piggy's.

Just curious, is this a recruit that was generated under the old engine that simply played as a freshman under the new engine, or are you in Year 2 of the new engine cycle and this is a recruit generated by the new engine as well?

In the Naismith season that's just wrapping up, I had 3 freshmen that were generated under the old engine but we played the year using the new. Two of my players started with WE's of 40 for the season and gained 32 and 36 points while averaging 7 and 18 mpg, respectively. I had a 42 WE frosh that gained 34 pts. at 17 mpg.

I don't know if it matters which engine generated the recruit or not when it comes to rate of improvement during the season. If so, then this post is totally irrelevant other than you've just alered me to something I have to look forward to down the road.

This was a recruit generated by the old system, since it was generated before May 12th. Unless for some reason the old engine's recruits weren't properly integrated into the new sim in some way (although I don't know how this could happen), then I just don't see this really being the cause. I'm well aware that new recruits will take longer to develope, but  I think the most likely possibility is that the WE threshold for practical attribute increases has been raised. Whether it is a specific change to WE or just the result of other changes to the game logic is probably unknowable at this point.

Thanks telling me about your freshmen, that gives me a little point of reference to consider.

All 5 of my guys improved just fine. The only one who was on the slow side was a guy with 10 WE, but he still gained +4 in ath/speed/stamina/passing and +5 in BH/Dura. Also got a +1 in Per, and now an A+ FT shooter.  My other guys each had at least 1 10+ area, and most had 2 or more. The gains for them were 82, 75, 68, 64, and of course only 27 for the 10 WE guard. He did lose some points which makes it look worse. I didn't see much of an issue with my FR.

I feel like I'm missing something really obvious, but which one of your teams are you referencing? I checked both of them and I couldn't find anyone similar to your descriptions.

Ohhhhh, very well then. I'm starting to feel as if playing time has a much larger impact on the rate of improvement in the new engine. I noticed that the player with a WE of 11 in question started every game and averaged 20.4 minutes. The almost doubled amount of court time, as compared to my player, is the only major variable that I can detect from what I have seen so far. Thanks for the info.

Could also be because my guy had almost all guys - ath/speed/bh/passing compared to yours with average.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "because my guy had almost all guys", but I'm going to assume that you mean that your player may of had some advantage because his initial ratings were better to begin with.?.

This could be the case, but wouldn't that go against the prevailing wisdom that the higher the attribute rating the longer it takes to increase them? How would the one with a bad WE and higher beginning amounts increase faster than the player with a better WE (by two and a half times) and average starting amounts? It would seem that both of these metrics would favor my player. But if this isn't what you meant, then please feel free to clarify.

oops, was tired. My guy had all high potential*, generally, my high potential guys get more per year then my average potential guys.

I'm more interested in how you lost a digit.

If your guy had high potential then I could definitely see that as being the reason he advanced more than my guy with just average potential, but your guy still gives up a lot in WE to my guy. I guess this will just take some time to figure out.

I was just playing around, but you're luck if you make it out of Seoul with all your digits, especially if you end up in some of the shady drinking dens like I did.
