you see colonels, when i was in middle school/early high school i used to post on the xbox.com message boards. people would argue there about ANYTHING, from halo to gay marriage to whether a lady from japan was being a b**** or not. i took part in a lot of these arguments. i took my lumps. yes, from time to time, i made a fool of myself with specific arguments i made.

i learned from my mistakes, learned to pick my spots better and became the online debater i am now. i don't try to make idiotic points like "Just noting the above because you said ALL the time...not most, not some...ALL...so now you're backtracking...cute." we all know the term "all the time" isnt used literally, you're not gonna convince anyone that you're right that way. and if you don't care if other people think you're right, don't bother to argue.

another example, halfway through the "13 United States" argument you asked me to show one example of something...i got an example from wikipedia and you reply "we all know wikipedia isnt a reliable source" or something along those lines. if i had been in my xbox.com mindset, maybe i would have tried to explain why you were being stupid...but the moment i read that i thought to myself "i win." the rest of the argument was a joke to me, because i knew that

1. you realized you were wrong and were grasping at straws to save face somehow
2. everyone that read that thread also knew you were wrong.

so i had some fun with it and went off-topic for a bit.

what i'm really trying to say here is: this is why the whole forum thinks you're a moron. you've shown signs of improving, yeah, but you can't say stuff like that an expect to have a turn-around similar to that of furry_nipps.

hey colonels...you're just dead wrong here. players transfer in real life because they don't get playing time...and the reason they don't get playing time is because other players on the team are better than them.

just look at villanova, in the past 4 years Bilal Benn, who was a decent recruit but only averaged 9 min a game as a soph, transferred to niagara. Then malcom grant transferred the next season cuz he couldnt get playing time behind scottie reynolds and corey fisher.

did benn deserve more minutes than he got? nope. he transferred. grant was definitely not as good as reynolds or fisher, but transferred.

this fantasy world you have made up where players "understand they are the 3rd best at their position and dont complain" doesn't exist. if players want playing time, they leave. they only have 4 years of eligibility, they're gonna want to play.
Even if my claims are wrong, I still don't think that players griping about minutes who weren't promised anything should be apart of this game...while we're at it, grades too. That's really the main point here. The game doesn't benefit at all from having pointless miniutiae like this. Again, HD is interesting enough without having to babysit your whiny players, and trying to adjust my lineup NOT so that I have the best 5-10 guys on the floor the most...but to please all of my players all of the time because they'll leave if I don't. It's clearly detrimental to the game.
if we're not trying to replicate real life then why are we simulating real sports? lets make a fantasy "hutball" sim where nobody can argue with the results and bench players are grinning robots. we'll call it "poops dynasty" cuz nobody would be interested in playing in the first place.
I practically wait for posts like this. I think certainly games should play like the sports they represent, but it isn't required that every last little nuance is included in said game. I think the premise of EA Sports NFL Head Coach is a good one, but it's just way too complex and intricate for my liking. I actually find that adding "realism" makes many (push button) games worse and not better, and I just don't see how players without promises griping about PT makes the game better...or grades for that matter. Cut your losses, let EVERYONE keep the recruits they signed without penalty (unless promises were made) and EVERYONE'S happy...I just don't get why you would thwart 100% customer satisfaction in the name of "realism". I don't play HD because players gripe when they weren't promised anything, and I don't think anyone else does either. You don't go to a baseball game to watch an umpire "kick the ****" out of a call that ruined a perfect game...same premise here.

what makes you think shedding player griping would make EVERYONE happy? all we know is it would make colonels happy. it would not make me happy. i want realism. i want it to be as realistic as possible. THAT is what makes it fun for ME.

I've cut my teeth elsewhere, too, and am better because of it. There isn't much worth to being an "online debater" but I enjoy it and it allows me to stay on the top of my game.

Lawyers pick on subtle nuances within language, and I do the same. If we were in court and you said it happens all the time...I'd ask you about the frequency and after you told me it wasn't all the time, I would say it was either most or some of the time. You can say I'm a nitpicker, but use the language that you meant to use...don't leave it up for interpretation.

When I was in college, I had countless professors say that Wikipedia wasn't a reliable source and that I/we couldn't use it as a source, thus among the intellectual elite...it isn't a reliable source. It isn't World Book or Encyclopedia Britannica. I still think it's a good, quick reference, however it doesn't mean that it's right all the time. Any boob can practically say anything on there...it will get fixed, but misinformation can still be displayed on the site.

You think I really care what people think of me here? I know a lot of people don't like me/are against me, but that won't shut me up, change my beliefs, change my demeanor, etc. I respect everyone here, but I'm not here to make friends, and whether you like me or you don't, that's your choice...read me or don't. If people want to have a coniption every time I say something, fine, I'm ready to rumble. If people want to pick and choose items from an argument that don't apply all that much to the argument in question and come at me about it, fine...let's dance. In the end, love me or hate me...I ALWAYS give the people what they want.

Fair enough...now I'm the one making blanket statements that may or may not apply to the suggested amount of people, however part of me thinks that you would be contrarian here just to defeat my claim. We obviously have different wants and expectations from HD.

Would you quit HD if they removed player griping and/or grades?

my response to each paragraph:

1. haha whatever you say
2. the subtle nuances that lawyers pick up on actually help their cases. the whole "why'd you say all if you meant some?" angle doesn't help your argument, it just makes you look stupid for not understanding what daalter meant.
3. we all know wikipedia isnt a reliable source when making citations in a paper or something. when exemplifying how people talk, it's actually a better source than Encyclopedia Britannica. also, if you really think you're part of the "intellectual elite" you're not showing it. if you don't know why, you're probably not a part of the "elite".
4. the fact that you reply to EVERYTHING says it all about what you care about. chillax, dude.

EDIT: to elaborate, being ready to rumble is fine, just stop making stupid points

no, but i wouldnt like it. i'm not leaving HD for almost anything. one of my hobbies in the past has been using excel to make my own sim-able leagues (in whatever sport...my leagues focuses more on the team-building and having an easily readable history, rather than in-depth game sims. i'm no programmer and excel can only do so much unless you work hard as hell for a long *** time). basically, this stuff is my crack. i only have 2 teams simply because i'm trying to temper myself.

Saying something happened/happens all the time because you saw strife on a Rose Bowl winning Big 10 team a couple times doesn't necessarily mean that it happens everywhere...just because that that's daalter's reality/experience, doesn't mean that it's like that everywhere, and based on my experience (which is way less than daalter's on the issue) I said it doesn't happen a lot more than it does. My argument against player minute griping probably could have done without the claim entirely, because now we're no longer focused on the problem I originally had/have with the game, and that's unfortunate. I will say this, neither daalter or I are/were as right as we think we are/were.

When I said intellectual elite, I was referring to college professors, but with that said, I consider myself to be a pretty smart guy. I have diarrhea (sp?) of the keyboard sometimes and believe you me, I wish it didn't happen at all. The less sleep I get, the more foot in mouth I get, or so it seems.

I reply to everything because I want to be the most accountable human being on earth. Why wouldn't you reply to everything that everyone comes at you with? That has nothing to do with caring about people liking me, because if it did, it hasn't worked. I know how frustrated I get when people skirt or pick and choose posts, so I don't want to do that to others...rightly or wrongly.

even if whatif decided to utilized "BPI Sports" rankings in some way, i wouldn't quit. i might go to cincinnati, break into the whatif offices and flip a s*** but i'd still play...
8/7/2010 11:15 AM
Lol, well played. I don't think you have anything to worry about, however in my unhumblest of opinions, it would vastly improve the rankings and seeding in this game.

when i say "care" i dont mean "care about people liking you" i mean "care about the argument". i usually care a lot, hence why i'm making a note that i'm going to mow my lawn and that's why i'm about to disappear, but i don't care enough to go back and read your/daalter's argument about rose bowl running back blah blah aaron stecker blah. f*** aaron stecker. why didnt you TELL ME you were deuce's backup that year? you little d***.

i actually have a fantasy football draft today. 12th pick in a 14 team ppr league. its a league of the "intellectually elite" and a younger brother or two. except for one or two guys, they're not elite. neither is the guy who drafts turner or greene in the 1st round of a ppr draft. no we're not professors.

jetwildcat, the problem is that while colonels has poor logic and is possibly the worst debater I've seen, he thinks he has great logic and is a terrific debater.

For someone to change/improve, one necessary trait is self awareness, and that is totally lacking here. So as long as he's a terrible debater running around actually thinking he's a great debater, nothing can or will change.
8/7/2010 11:32 AM
Yeah, and you've read enough of my work to be a good JJE...2 posts...*confetti*
