DII Sim AI poaching DIII reecruits Topic

Recruiting just began in Rupp.

Wanted to jump on a D3 Point Guard (394), but found he is already considering a D2 school.

What is a D2  Sim AI school doing taking the few good D3 prospects?!?

Doesn't seem right.

This has always happened.

Take him from the sim

I think more human-coached teams should be poaching D3 recruits.  I just recruited a 3-year JUCO center who is going to have 100 rebounding for at least a season or a season and a half and athleticism at least in the mid-40s if not in the 50s as well as solid shot-blocking.  The guy is an offensive slug, but if you were a low-prestige D2 school who needed a 7 or 8 man recruiting class you could pick him up for peanuts and play him as a backup without suffering too much.

Can I beat a D2 school for him?? I thought it was virtually useless to try.

I think the risk/cost of trying to beat out a D2 Sim is prohibitive if you're a D3 school.

+1. I've tried it twice - I lost one battle and won the other, but given what it cost me it wasn't worth it in either case.

with the new recruit generation,  the D2 Sims can't find players worth a crap at D2, plus the new D2 guys are so bad they are dropping to D3 pretty fast, while this certainly did happen in the past...I've noticed it's pretty common place now.

On the plus side as a D3 team you can find D2 quality players slightly easier now, on the negative side those players are worse than before, and have a pretty decent chance a D2 SIM will show up recruiting them if you wait too long after Signings start.

Remember D3 recruiting is more like a draft than actually recruiting, you are better off spending money on FSS than on any battles.

d3 vs d2 is not prohibitive at all. i almost never lost those. especially against sims - the only way i wouldnt fight a sim for a player i wanted is if i anticipated battling for a different player. even d2 humans can be beat easily, i probably won 90% of battles in those cases as the d3 school. at one point, i even beat a high quality a- prestige d2 school for a player. bottom line is, as a d3 school, don't fear d2 schools. especially if you have any distance advantage.

I agree.  I've beaten out several D1 Sim coached teams with my D2 teams and the ratio of money is worse there than D2/D3.  You just have to be smart about which battles to fight and which ones to let pass.  One thing to consider is to wait until the first "Word on the Street" and see how committed the Sim is to that particular player.  If the player is "open to other offers", he can be had.  If the Sim is "very tight" with the player, it's probably best to go another route.

Scouting trip, home visit, campus visit (he's in close proximity) and scholy ......and the D2 team drops out!?!

Didn't expect that.

The word on the street previously was that the D2 school was the frontrunner but that he was open to other options.

Y the scouting trip?

im 1 for 1 lifetime in d3 vs d2 sim, but it took 10k (even within 200 miles) and it really wasn't worth it, i was just so hellbent on it i went down with the ship!

i'd imagine most go smoother than that-- also, my buddy at a A+ prestige D2 school once lost a battle to a A- prestige D3 school.

my thoughts on the new recruits: i think now more than ever before there are good D2 players who start on D2 lists (i am usually talking A prestige d2 schools). there are a ton of unranked guys who, imo, are really legit (or just a touch worse than the guy you'd get if you wanted forever to drop, and it's usually a safer bet to get someone close you don't even have to pull down and are assured of not getting into a battle for).
