WE Loss due to RS Topic

Coach, I think you've made better decisions - I'm not angry, but I'm not happy either. Ok, I guess I am angry.

I just don't think it's cool that you didn't say that I would be looking at a redshirt season when I got here.

Kenneth

He lost 18 WE and now is at 27. If I remove the RS, will he regain those lost WE?

Yes he will. And if you try to RS him again, the strong likelihood is that he'll lose more we points the next time.

Will he regain them all at once? He is one of 2 players that I wouldn't mind RS, so my thinking is to remove it from him and RS the other guy.

He'll regain all of the we points that he lost as soon as you remove the RS.

He gets all the points back and you can try it on him again.

There is no reason to take a  WE drop and not try to reapply.

I have done the process up to 6 times on one player and I have never had any penalty after removing the RS.  So it is just a luck of the draw to get the guy to accept it.  If you have promised him playing time, I do not think you can use a promise to get out of it, however.

Well, yes, there is a reason not to remove the RS and re-apply.

If you have a guy who loses some we but still has a manageable we that you can live with, it's probably worth keeping the RS on. The overwhelming odds are that if you take it off and re-apply, his we will plunge lower with subsequent attempts.

I have done this dozens of times and that is NOT my observation of the evidence at all.

You can do this a hundred times to one player if necessary with no penalty other than the final application of a redshirt.  Yes, you can stop any time you are happy with the result.  I do not think losing over half of your WE is something to be happy with so I would try again or take it off all together.

I can say, in fact, that I have never had to go more than 6 times to get a guy at Div-III or Div-II to take a RS without any WE drop.  Whether this is also true for Div-1 , I can't tell you.

Maybe I am lucky, but that is my actual observation.

I have not tried it for promises as there was an update that said guys will always have a WE drop if you do it there.

As an aside, if you decide to keep the redshirt, his WE likely won't go back up

Coach, I think it's probably a good idea - I could use the year to work on my game - it's going to be tough watching though!

Kenneth

And the re-RS worked. WE stayed at 45, no loss whatsoever.
