I'm with mully... no FSS at all at DIII, but keep it the same at DII and DI.
several vets have said it, but me too, free in d3, pay for it in d1/d2
This does leave open the possibility to have two teams in a world and just use one to scout for the other.  I hadn't thought about the cheaters out there using one team to scout for the other.  I like the current system but it is true that making FSS free would eliminate the need to have two teams in a world to see more recruits.

Actually it would turn it around.  You could use a d3 team scout for your d1 and d2 teams.

only let d3 coaches see d3 recruits maybe , but yep - that cheating thing would be an issue

I don't use fss anyways. It's a waste of good recruiting money I could use to get a recruit.
8/20/2010 11:07 PM
but if d3 guys could only see d3 recruits what happens to pulldowns?  This is why FSS free for d3 and paying at d1/2 won't work.
8/20/2010 11:17 PM
So I guess we just leave thing as they are? Haha
8/20/2010 11:23 PM
free for DIII recruits only.  If a DIII coach wants to try and pull someone down, then they would buy the state at the same rate as the DI / DII team would have to do.

free FSS could potentially lead to more battles for reruits at the DIII level since coaces would have access to many more recruit potentials

Sounds reasonable

i say make it all free for all of the reasons that rednu pointed out a few posts back.  those who are worried about "strategy" will still have to come up with a good strategy to be a strong recruiter.  with a level playing field for everyone you're going to have to decide which battles to fight and which ones to run from.  you may not get the superstar in the making you wanted....but the coach who did might get stuck with 3 walkons because he ran out of money trying to land that player.  meanwhile you got 4 guys with average potentials across the board with the occasional high thrown in.

coaches will still have to make plenty of decisions and formulate an efficient strategy in regards to what battles they engage in, and how far they are willing to travel from their campus to spend money on evals and visits.  that aspect of the game might be a little different, but it won't be any easier.

Part of me would love to have access to all the players potentials for free, but I think we get spoonfed enough as it is.  I say leave it like it is.

You've obviously had success, but I still don't see how anybody can be succesful without using FSS.

make a recruit with a 'favorite school' start off considering that school?

I have essentially the opposite opinion of everyone here--

make it free for d1 (d1 players only, so no cheating), leave everyone to pay everywhere else. this might encourage more battles at d1, where the majority seemingly wants them to increase.

At d2 and d3, I've always felt that when and where to scout was a valuable piece of strategy, and i've treated it as such. In d1, I scout the 8 states nearest me, and maybe a couple of others where i like a specific player, and never worry about the money. also, isn't moy's non-use of FSS (and i know at least one other good coach who doesn't use it at all) a similar strategic decision that would be taken away if FSS were made free?

free fss? that sounds terrible. the only people that could support this are coaches who want to suck the last bit of strategy out of this game. seriously, fss is like the only thing left in this game that i like. no matter what level u are at, d1, d2 or d3 no team, not even the duke's of the world can scout every player. i think hoops dynasty got this right and don't touch it.
