No longer a strategy to "hold back" players Topic

Straight from sebles mouth;

:Holding back players is not an effective strategy. There was a change made at some point before I took over to focus on ratings instead of stats to determine if a player would leave, to combat that strategy. Your best bet is to play your best players. That will maximize your success as a team, and then if they do leave early you can reload as long as you have a decent prestige."

Was new to me and thought everyone should know in case they missed it too!

Good change. Anyone who signs the top ranked guys now better really need them, because they are cleary the best and will leave no matter what likely after season 1.

Not typically, furry, We got 2 seasons with them in every case I have seen. I do not think we have seen a FR jump yet. My SO really hurt me because he gave me all the riding the bus and team player BS evals. Planned on having him as my cornerstone, Now I am stuck at Kansas with tons of talent, no local talent in sight, while runningn a press which is clearly getting the shaft. Oh happy day!. Going to be rough year year and will have ZERO chance to go anywhere next season.

Will be testing that tonight with my 927-rated FR SF and 896 FR SG when EE's get announced after our trip to the FF...

Could I have used any more acronyms in that sentence?  LOL!

I'm pretty sure I saw a freshman jump in Tark.  I think it was a freshman from UCLA but I'm not sure about that.

Yea it was UCLA who lost a freshman, he started every game for the national championship team.

There have been freshmen jumping here and there, but the switch to a more ratings-based system where holding guys back statistically doesn't really help is old news.

Here are his ratings/stats - I apologize in advance about the formatting - there is only so much that can be done when the arrows put things off in the forums.  He was the #1 PF/#4 Overall recruit, won conference and national freshman of the year awards:

i have no problems with players leaving early but i no idea why stats are not part of the drafting  / leaving early formula anymore.  it's now way too much about ratings and NT results.  in my opinion, there's no common sense logic why back-up sophs and juniors declare for the draft w/o much starts nor mpg.  when is the last time (in real life) a soph or junior 10 mpg bench player declared for the draft and was actually drafted?

in real life, plenty of past ncaa players were drafted that didn't make the NT much but had excellent stats over 3-4 college seasons.  they need to add stats (mainly ppg, apg, and rbpg) back into the equation.

I thought we were still playing with old players. When the new recruits are out, there will be a wider talent gap between the top and the rest with the exception of a few hidden gems. If it is about ratings, the top ranked guys will be gone in 1-2 years because they should be the best each year other then a few others who will be so/jr/sr who reached potential and are now just as good. For now, you still got a lot of great talent so its to early to know for sure if they will be drafted or not, but I see no reason why they won't when they will be the clear best.

I honestly thought that Tarek had made this change over 2 years ago and it looks Seble is acknowledging that is so. It is not 100% likely that the top players go, but it has been much greater than before they had made this change. The focus seems to be more on the core ratings. I have had 750 rated sophs and juniors go pro when maxed in their cores and I have had 900+ rated players stick for 4 years when they still have room for growth. Also, as with anything in this game, there continues to be exceptions.

I think stats should definitely play a factor. It would be silly if you have a loaded team and sign the #1 player overall but you don't need him to play and he rides the bench and you win a title but he decides to go pro anyway despite playing 6 MPGs.

Because too many coaches were gaming the system by holding back their stud recruits.

Under this logic though, his ratings wouldn't be as good as the people in front of him anyway.  Otherwise if he's got the ratings to play, he should play, which is what I think this rule is going for.
