If a school like a North Carolina, Duke, etc. is looking at a player a DII school is recruiting, doesn't that show in and of itself that something is terribly wrong? Either there are not enough quality recruits at the DI level or the elite DII schools have too much ability to recruit DI-level players. Even if it is a temporary phenomenon, a BCS school and a DII school should *never* be going after the same player. IMHO.
this actually happened from time to time in the old engine too. in the potential era, there were 2 seasons in a row a big 6 school took my #1 target (before i was on them, but still).
but yeah, it definitely happens more now. generally speaking, in the old engine, if i had 4 scholarships, i would find say the top 5 players and most likely sign 4 of them. now, most like 4 of them are going to d1, 1 or 2 to big 6 schools, and then i am stuck with #5 and #8 and #12 and #16 because all the others went to a damn d1 school!
does this mean something is inherently wrong? i think so. i think the caliber of recruits needs to go up, not in the elite or very good class of recruits, but certainly in the good class of recruits. if d1 schools could find good players regularly, they wouldnt be taking the crap that d2 schools sign (admittedly, sometimes there are really good guys available to d2 schools, but still). they would take a walkon and hope to sign someone better the next year.
