Work Ethic and Potential Topic

What can I expect in terms of improvement points in guys with work ethic over 90 and "high" potential in categories. I've seen earlier posts about players with low work ethic and how they will never max out their potential. Any help is much appreciated.

depending on how you use your practice minutes you could see 60+ overall points... maybe more

Actually, a player's final potential does not change depending on his we. The we impacts how quickly he'll improve -- so a guy that has room to improve 25 pts in a category will be able to reach that level much faster when he has a high we.

But it does not take a guy who would otherwise cap out at 25 pts of improvement and all of the sudden allow him to go higher.

If the WE is extremely low, he will improve slowly, and probably never meet his potential.  Inherited a guy like that--a soph with big upside in 5 or 6 categories, according to the asst coach.  But he was a 1 WE; did not improve even one point in the first 20 games.  Not like he wasn't playing--he was the backup.  Finally the computer gods gave him an extra WE point, and he picked up maybe two or three points in the remaining 7 games, counting the conference tourney.  Would guess minimum of 20 WE--because WE, like other cats, can go up as positive things happen to a player, like more minutes, starting, etc.  A guy with 20 WE can, by his senior year, be 35-40.

I had a player a while back in the mid-80s WE with lots of potential.  He worked out quite well.  Go for it.

WE matters a lot more. I use to have a team full of players under 30 WE, but now every FR I just signed are over 30 other then 1 at 28. Dumond led my team in improvement last year with his 80 WE even though he hardly played. He gained like 70 points or so which is what helped sway me into going for more WE.

Had two FR with WE's of 88 and 73 improve 70 and 84 overall with double digit improvements in several core areas last season. No telling what the 88 would have done if I hadn't had to devote extra SH to him at midterms.

I signed a Freshman in D3 who started out around 440 Overall. As a RS Soph he looks like this. WE + Potential can = Studs.

Overall: 646

Athleticism 37
Speed 55
Rebounding 49
Defense 17
Shot Blocking 28
Low-post 69
Perimeter 43
Ball Handling 55
Passing 56
Work Ethic 88
Stamina 76
Durability 73
FT Shooting B

Thats like 200 overall improvment in a little over 2 Seasons.

Ok thanks for the advice fellas. I figured I had some depth on this years team and could take a chance on a guy with high WE/high potential.

it also helps to see if the scouting report says TEMENDOUS improvement (like high-high potential).  I grabbed a guy this year with 90 WE and redshirted him.  He has almost 40 improvment so far (without even playing obviously).  He per his FSS he had lots of high potential and it seems to me some of the high potentials are of the high-high category.  I have 'high' hopes for him to do very well in a few years.  It will be interesting to see.
