Leave 'em be or what?

If they have some potential in spd, high work ethic, and high athleticism, they can play Center and can still fair well as long as it's at DII or DIII.

They would be too much of a handicap if you played a man defense, constantly fouling out and losing rebounds to quicker opponents. Probably the same for a press. With high potential/WE, he might work out in a zone. Of course that's given that you LOVE his other ratings & potentials; otherwise, leave him alone.

The correct answer is: shouldn't exist, period.

Yes, because there's no such thing as the slowest among a group of individuals in real life.

Shawn Bradley?  Manute Bol?  They deserve 1 SPD ratings. Mutumbo would be hard pressed to be more than a 5 speed.

VERY useful at D3.  Have not tried at D2/D1, but at D3 these guys can play center and do well if they have good ATH, REB, LP, Etc.

Go ez on Shawn Bradley... he was at least a 4 or 5....LOL. I saw him run to save a ball from going out once and then leap over the scorers table.
That being said, this is not a bell curve... it's 1 - 100... there are no players in the NBA with ratings of 1 in ANY category. Just because they look slow in comparison to their peers... they would smoke everyone of you would be coaches in every one of the categories listed. Bar none.
Some of the recruits listed might have a 1 in some areas... but they should not be usable in any situation in any college in America. It's a 1.... not a 10... a 1 and they don't belong playing in this game.... If they are viable as a player,,, even in DIII then that's an area that should be fixed. It's a 1

10, 15, or 20 is slow.... most paint dries faster than a 1

Zags. .what do you think a bell curve is?  The fact that the rating is 1 - 100 does not makes it - or make it not be - a bell curve.  The fact that the rating is 1 - 100 is completely irrelevant to being a bell curve.  The 1 - 100 rating describes the field of college players.  Someone who is not as fast as the slowest in the universe of college players is by definition lower than one.  All the people that are slower than any college basketball players. . wouldn't fit within the scale.
They are not included within its bounds.

i have a sophomore big man  - www.wisjournal.com/hd/PlayerProfile/Ratings.aspx - with 1 SPD that I use as my starting C in a zone.  it remains to be seen how effective he will be (or the team will be with him anchoring the center) for the year.  he has low potential in SPD.  normally i wouldn't have recruited a guy like this, but his REB, BLK & LP are so good he was hard to pass up.

i believe he'll be more effective in 2-3 than a 3-2 because, in theory, he's moving less in a 2-3 by being in the center of the zone, whereas in a 3-2 he'd have to move laterally a bit more.

i think players like my guy, Wiggins, could be successful in a zone or m2m at DII or DIII but not in a press nor at DI.

Actually, I believe that the liability of fouling out would depend more on defensive fundamentals coupled with IQ rating. I recruited a 5 spd C who is JR now in Division 2 while playing Man defense.  This is of course higher than 1, but with a 13 work ethic he has improved only to a 9 while starting this entire season. His Def is 89 and Ath is 90 and IQ off/def is A-/B+. He average 1.8 fouls per game and I don't think he fouled out of any game this season, while starting and averaging 23 minutes per game. We just won the championship in Phelan Division 2. Yes, you can viably recruit this type of player if he has high ATH and if he has potential, avg or high, in spd along with decent to high work ethic and make it work.

I have always stood away from them.  A high ath/spd combo and create a lot of baskets, for any position.  Even with low cores (Per, LP, ect.), a high combo of ath/spd can create a 10+ pt/gm scorer.  The way I see it, if that can MAKE a scorer, it can also hold someone back.    Why would you want someone on the court that is too slow to get into position, both offensivly, and defensivly.  Basketball is a 2 way sport through and through.  Theres no opportunity for someone on the court to only play offense, that same center is going to be guarding someone, and they will definately be getting burnt with a 1 speed.

I dunno, not maybe centers get the ball dribbled by them, at least when not helping out on a guard.  Being slow isn't that big of a deal if you aren't pressing and playing center.

At D3 how fast is the guy you are guarding?  10?  20?  A fast center is like 30.

that's actually a good question for seble...

is "1" in a category meant to be, the slowest a normal human can be, or just the slowest players in the game?

FWIW i do think guys like manute bol are a 1 or a 2

and arssanguinus doesnt get zags' point
