Most evals for a pull-down? Topic

What is the most evals you've spent getting a pull-down to consider?  Does prestige influence this? I just had to use 35 evals to get the #83 SF to consider with an A prestige...(D II)

35 is my record also. You know the recruit, Paul Stimson on my Bryant team last season.

I've needed 38 before...and have had way more than my share of kids that needed 30+ than I'd like to admit.  I read about other coaches who say it only takes 10-15, but in my experience that's been more the exception to the rule, as I honestly think I've had more kids that have needed 30+ than 10-15.

I guess I've had a run of luck...I average 12-18 over the last half dozen seasons...

I have had to go into the 20's a number of times and have also had a couple that considered me after just 2 or 3. I've never tried to get a sub 100 player so I assume that is where the bigger numbers were needed.

I've never had to use 30+ when the recruit wasn't considering another team.  It's usually much closer to the 12-18 that dacj501 mentioned.

If he's considering another school then those 25-35 seem about right.

When people say 30 evals .. I assume they mean Scouting Trips, right?

So, in Div-II, you are using 30 Scouting Trips to get a guy to Drop down for you.  Since the cost of a trip is between $150 (for a guy who is within 10 miles) and $700 (seems to be Max regardless of distance) .. it would stand to reason that means for 30, you would be spending:

30 x $150 = $4,500

30 x $700 = $21,000

I would imagine that this means if you are in Div-II where you get $6K per recruit, if you are going to spend 30 Scouting Trips, you are picking guys who are no greater than 190 miles away (which would be $187 and $5610.00 for 30 trips).

Does all this make sense?

10-15 has held up for me for quite a while with occasionally under 10 if it is closer to the signing period. I just signed a #118 for 12 with a B+ prestige. He was considering me by the morning of signings.

30+ seems a crazy expenditure at D-II, but if you get a great player, maybe it works.

spot on hughes...and spot on axe.  It is crazy to have to use 30+ evals.  And to Iguana's point, in each of my cases, he was never considering anyone else.  What's not clear in each case, though, is if someone else was trying to pull him at the same time as me, thus pushing up his cost.  I'd love to only have to spend 10-15 evals, hell even 20 is my base case these days.  Anything better than that and I'm pretty  happy and quite surprised.  Dunno why my mileage varies so much.

yeah - well, 20 evals in, there isn't a lot of options other than keep going...player is only so-so, but the best I could get after D I schools swooped away all my early recruits...

that is good math if one signs every recruit this way. If you get 1 for $110 though, that means you've got more $$ to play with for the next guy...plus like I said, I've never gone over 30 before.

I rarely have to use more than 10, I tend to just do 10 and a scholarship offer and very rarely that isn't enough to pull the recruit down. I remember that 1 recruit I used 35 and another I used 25 but he was considering somebody else first. Besides those 2 I can remember a couple of times I had to do 15 but I say in 90% of my cases I've only had to use 10 and that's at all type of prestige levels.

I've rarely needed 15 evals. Most of the pulldowns I've gotten with just 10 evals. My prestige has varied from C- to A+ and I have never tried to take a pulldown away when the player is considering another school. However, for most of my pulldowns, I stick within 100 miles of campus. I also think it depends on when you begin the pulldown that makes a difference. If you wait until the 2nd day of recruiting to start they are easier and cheaper to get.

yeah, maybe that's the key, I usually do it in the first day.  kmason, dac, do you guys do it on the second day as well?

12-15 seems to be about my average.  I've had to use more on occasion, but it's been rare.
