well, i guess its only important if you were involved in the discussion several months back about whether or not there was any capacity in which a player on a team could impact the fg% of another player. for example, if a great pg with great passing will get his guy better open looks and thus a better fg%.
a couple people came forth with some great information that said there is no impact. i argued from the writeup of the NBA sim, in which assists were clearly part, that passing must be in HD. also that from common sense, it just simply had to be part of the thing, and also from experience. but multiple CS tickets from multiple people proved me wrong, and demonstrated, no rating of 1 team mate impacts the fg% of another.
well, apparently, this has changed. i have half kept an eye on this in the new engine, and concluded passing had to be a factor, so i wrote this ticket:
Hi,
A while back (before you rewrote the engine), we talked about how passing was not a factor in the offensive performance of other team mates (except turnovers). This was just one example of a greater issue where no attribute of one player effected the fg% of another, the glaring real life discrepancy being how big an impact a great pg has on his team mate's ability to get good looks. Now that you rewrote the engine, I am wondering if you made any adjustment for this issue? It seems to me like you have, but then again, I was wrong the first time, so.... :)
Thanks!
Jeff
and got this response:
Yes, the passing ability of a player's teammates does impact his FG%.
I never saw anything in the dev chats or the release notes or the forums about this change, so if this has already come up, then my apologies. Otherwise, I figure it is something people will definitely want to be aware of!
on a final note, i think it is great we have a site staff that is willing to directly answer a question like this, which was (at least in my experience) definitely not the case before.
