not collusion - might be a fair play violation - would be interesting to know what CS thinks - but seems kind of chicken crap to even ask - sometimes one just has to shake ones head and utter WTF underone's breath?

i do think it falls under attempted collusion. its no different to me, to say "if you don't do this i will take your guy", and "if you do this i wont take your guy" and "if you do this i wont take your guy down the line". all are an attempt at making a deal in which the agreement by the other coach would constitute collusion which is unfair to the other coaches in the game.

Pretty sure CS would consider it a fair play violation.  Usually any discussion of recruits irks their ire.  The A- coach is just bluffing.

Discussing which recruits you are/are not going to go after with other coaches, privately, in cooperation sounds like collusion to me...

I'd say it's a cut and dry case of collusion.  It doesn't have to be both ways.  Coach B should be spanked (figuratively, of course).

at no point should a private message compel one to change recruiting actions.

there are clear cases and less clear cases - its annoying because the collusion concern has ruled out banter that was amusing along the lines of "watch out, I'm coming after you on Jones, and I've got millions in the bank...." or the like....

fd - were you around in the old days when the d1 guys were mock drafting on the coaches corners, guys would BS about going after someone elses recruits, post on other CC's to go after someone else, etc?  I was more in d2/d3 then, by the time I got to high level d1 most of that had gone away.

major d1 conferences would have 50 posts a day then if I recall.

Problem was, where is that gray line drawn, between fun and going over the limit?

By the way, a distinction to all u guys calling the example collusion, in the strictest sense, I believe this is more a fair play violation - same penalty anyways, collusion is a 2 party agreement to bend the recruiting rules.  In those very old days, some conferences may have actually drafted recruits, I'm thinking in the first couple seasons of d1 while tarek was still getting the bugs out.

FD, the game is hardly recognizable from those days, mostly to the good I suppose, but those days were exponentially more passionate and funny - weren't they?

exactly - bluffing and posturing is a great part of the game, as long as it's kept in CCs, not douchey sitemails.

i agree. its of a shame. i had a conf rival which was a great rivalry, and we were close by each other so unsurprisingly, we often would target the same guys. once, i said, hey, if you let me have player X (a guard who we both were after), you can have your pick of any of my other guards. for which, i got a warning about violating fair play guidelines. it was like.... really? CS assured me they only gave me a warning bc someone complained and really didn't think anything wrong had happened, and just wanted to give me a heads up. but that didn't really matter, its still stopped me from joking about recruiting in many cases since then, all of which would have been totally harmless (at least in intent, i suppose people could potentially pick up a small amount of information in some cases).

i would agree with that. above all, that sitemail was definitely douchey.

not fair play.

I was around way back then - there was more passion - the banter was fun - but of course the point is also correct that SOME FEW took it too far, toward allocating, drafting players and that led to the crackdown....alas.....

I guess I would want to know which team the recruits were considering first and who jumped who. But if this guy has such a high prestige he should be able to see and recuit players the new guy will never see.  We have so many SIMS any more it just makes me mad when a veteran coach picks on a newbie, especially by trying to bully him.  That does wonders in teaching new guys how to play the game and getting them to stay around.
