Conference realignment: how to do it? Topic

Thanks - feel free to propose any modifications.  It's weird to have Notre Dame in the MVC

How about putting Notre Dame in the Big 12 instead of So. Florida?

Move So. Florida to the CUSA, creating a natural rivalry with C. Florida,  and put UTEP in the Big Sky. Or, put UTEP in the WCC and Denver in the Big Sky. This would put UTEP in an 'unnatural' conference, however, but they played in the WAC for almost 40 years anyway

Then move Chicago St. from the Big Sky to the Horizon League and DePaul to the Missouri Valley, giving them an in-state rivalry with Illinois St., So. Illinois,  and Bradley. Chicago St would also benefit from inter-city rivals Ill-Chicago and Loyola.   I suppose you could move Marquette instead of DePaul, thus keeping the 4 Chicago schools together.  But it would break up the Wisconsin schools in the Horizon League

A minor change could involve moving Missouri-KC (SWAC), W. Illinois (MVC)  and E. Tennessee St. (OVC) It might make better geographical sense to have Mo-KC in the MVC;  W. Illinois in the OVC, and E. Tennessee St. in the SWAC.  E. Tennessee already borders some of the SWAC states.

This makes too much sense. They'll never go for it.

Another option is to switch Stetson and Louisiana Tech. That would give them both more in-states rivalries

I like where you guys are going with this. This was the one thing that really bothered me when I first started playing, knowing most of the schools and conferences off the top of my head. I don't think there's any way you could have Notre Dame in the MVC, as their baseline prestige would put them at a huge advantage over everyone else. And, being a Creighton fan, don't like that idea haha. I do like the thought of W Illinois and DePaul in the MVC, however. I'm trying to remember... did DePaul used to be in the MVC? I know Cincy did, but it would be the same deal with the baseline prestige. UMKC could potentially go to the MVC, it would make sense geographically, but that'd be weird having a low-major in such a good mid-major conference. Of course, it makes more sense than Gardner-Webb. I really like your guys ideas. Don't think WIS would ever go for it, but like it a lot.

So... try to get more religious schools to the WCC
State schools stick out like sore thumb

DePaul was never in the MVC, but Cincinnati, Louisville and Memphis were.  Other notable former members include Butler, Detroit, Houston, N.M. State, St. Louis, Tulsa and Oklahoma St.

From 1991-95, DePaul was in the Great Midwest which merged with the Metro to form CUSA.  THey were an independent for many years before that. I'm not sure if they were in another conference or not.

Honestly, who cares?

A. I don't think it's that big of a deal, and B. I don't trust WIS to adjust the conferences without effing that/something else up in the process.

All conferences are  created equal in HD basically, so why mess with a good thing?  I say, make the adjustments if/when WIS ever makes an 11th world.
In the opening post, it's very clear that this is a hyopothetical thread.   But it is fun to see if the alignments can be improved on. After all, the game IS named 'whatif"

I had never realized that St. Mary's didn't exist in this game.  Given their recent real-life success, I'm surprised no one has raised a real stink about iy.

Props for the amount of work that went into this cornfused!

It would be nice if some of this could be implemented to keep the game "in touch " with the real world that its modeling.

I think it makes more sense to keep Notre Dame in the BE.  I'd also keep Louisville over Cincy.  This means you have to find new homes for Cincinnati, Marquette, Depaul, TCU and USF.  I actually think they did a good job by puttig Depaul and Marq in the Horizon.  I'd stick TCU and Cincy in the B12 to get them up to 12, and then USF would probably have to end up in one of the smaller southern conferences.

Was hoping for a realignment years ago with so many changes.  At quick glance RE Big West/WCC - UC Davis is now D1 rather than D2 and a member of the Big West.  CSU Bakersfield is also D1 along with Seattle U.  I would put Davis, Bakersfield, San Jose St and New Mexico State in the Big West (instead of the four others added).  I would include Seattle U into the WCC.  My 2 cents.
