Pulldown Necessary? Topic

Good to hear from you coach! I've always had great respect for your school. I'm not sure how I would fit in there, but we can definitely talk more about it.

I got this msg from a recruit, which I have always thought of as straight up recruiting, no pulldown necessary. But he is not showing up in my D3 search and only in my D2 search. He is, however, only 20mi away. Is there something special about the distance that allows me to recruit him straight up or do I need to pull him down anyway.

Guess I don't need to pulldown since he accepted my HVs. Not sure why he's still in my D2 search though.

And this guy is a talker...

"SHHH-BANG! That's what I'm talking about! I was so excited to see you at the house, my momma had to hose down the carpet three times. She said she hadn't seen anybody so excited since the day they delivered grandpappy's Russian mail-order bride. She didn't speak a lick of English, but grandpappy didn't seem to mind. I'm not sure what she saw in him, but she must've seen something 'cuz they would go at it like two gophers at a carrot. Grandpappy died of some heart mischief later and his bride got all his belongings and money to soothe her aching heart. She's living in Beverly Hills now. She seems to be doing fine, but she won't return our calls anymore. Speaking of calls...how come you haven't returned any of my calls. I tried to call every hour to check on my status. I even found your home number, but something must be wrong, because it says its disconnected now. If you're having trouble paying those folks at the phone company, never you mind.

Why, once for about three years we had no phones 'cuz daddy couldn't get off'n his lazy butt to go get a job. He even tried doing one of them Wal-mart jobs of saying 'Hey, welcome to Wal-mart', but he kept messing it up. Momma had enough of that. She went out and got herself a new daddy. I don't see him much, but I think he must work all day, since he only comes by at night to call on momma and they go at it like pappy use to with his Russian gal. Funny though, he always sounds different, but momma doesn't mind only seeing him for a few hours every night. One time someone asked her what she did for a living and she said she was in the oldest profession - so I think she's a secretary or something. Anyways, you stop back, okay? Momma would love to talk to you again. She kept ranting about your pretty eyes, but I told her she must be crazy. I'll talk to ya later - when you get your phone undisconnected - and I can't wait to play for you and Drew.

Love ya, man!"

D2 kids (if you're at D3) that are 70 miles or closer sometimes will be open to your recruiting actions right from the start, basically it's the close-distance advantage.  Treat these like a D3 kid if you get this message or something similar that doesn't mention being a backup option.

Well if I'm not running the press, I wouldn't take him. Everything he has is 1 except ath/spd/def. And it looks like his IQ is in the single digits, from the msg he sent me.

I'm going to try to pay attention to this guys career.  Very interesting skills.  As a matter of fact,  challenge sent  ;)

No need to follow his career, since I have another upgraded version of him on my other team. Stats are good but this guy also got per/lp/bh/

Doesn't get much in the way of steals.  Is he a lock down defender?

Didn't follow him that closely but I had him playing backup sf, backup pf. I think he defended pretty well against PF with both a ath and spd advantage. Sf not sure since he might be a step slow. And this team is m2m, not press, so steals aren't high.

I guess this is similar to the other thread, where a D1 player after dropping to D2, if within 70 mi, will be sometimes open to pulldown from D3.

Dude, he's considering your Drew squad...I sent a fair amount of STs to get him and it just ended up being wasted money.
