hypothetical question Topic

could a player with every core between 50 and 60 play SG a few minutes a game in DII? He wouldn't start, but would be 3rd on the depth chart in case i play an uptempo team. He's be a senior, and an A IQ in both O and D.

When I say every core i mean everything from ath through passing. No core below 50, no core above 63 (LP)?

Right now I have him at SF playing the swing game. but my guard depth next year will be low, especially if I RS one of my recruits (which i try doing every year).

Thoughts? Could he hang for 5 minutes a game at SG you think to give someone a breather?

Well, the only question would be if he was better that the other backups at tired.    Are you talking about Renner?

this would be for next year... so it would be lanier starting, and mccaig or a new recruit backing him up...i'm just afraid mcaig isn't good enough (bad recruiting, needs more development time, and didn't play far enough ahead.

The guy I'm thinking about is cespedes. If i wanted to go big i could go poulin/cespedes/grier/shulman/harris... but i don't think that lineup has enough speed. or outside shooting. Renner i don't see starting at any position.

Of course renner could be that 3rd guy at SG and Carson could backup SF next year....It just matters who i get in recruiting, i know it's going to be 2 guards... (pg and SG)

mccaig should've never been recruited, period.......but back to your original question........why? doesn't make any sense, you have three guards that i would play before considering cespedes in the shooting guard spot................hatch is a must start and then based on the opponent i would either start baker or poulin..........use the one that doesn't start to backup the other two, then lanier as the third backup to both.....renner should start at sf and cespedes would be the backup sf and could also backup at pf. done and done.

i'm talking about next season when hatch and baker gaduate... and why renner over cespedes? he's not as fast, cant score or pass as well? just the ath? and i knew mccaig was a project and a last second add, odds are he'll never start a game. i would cut him if i wasn't so shallow at guard NEXT season

renner over cespedes..........i weigh ath/spd totals & def higher then you do.......but since your problem is about next season, as of now i guess you start poulin sg, lanier at pg..........i'd rather have lanier's iq at pg....one spot that iq tends to be important. if i were you i'd cut mccaig and hope you can recruit a few more players like poulin (better defensively would be nice)..........cespedes would backup up renner and poulin .

Cespedes could for sure play the 2 or the 3.  In fact I would probably start him at the 3.  McCraig isn't that bad, and with only 2 openings next year don't cut him.  He will never start, but is a decent back-up and fills a role.  Skunk like to exagerate how bad he thinks players are on other's teams

exagerate? mccaig couldn't even play for my d3 school in knight. your telling this guy to keep a player not even fit to start on most good d3 teams? face reality that guy will never outplay the opposing player consistently at d2.

I agree with skunk, McCaig is terrible.  I would cut him because he's essentially just a 4-year walk-on.

McCraig has a very nice PE rating, has one of his higher Def ratings and is at least growing in speed.  Is he great, no way, but he is a fine back-up and you need those.

are you kidding? 28 ath rating at d2? that is terrible. look at your d2 team grand valley st., tell me how mccaig could be backup on that team. mccaig woudn't even get mop up minutes with that lineup. your d2 team is a b plus prestige, this guys is a b minus, not much difference, but mccaig doesn't even sniff the talent you have playing backup, but for this coach it is ok? that makes no sense. if you can't tell a coach the truth then you shouldn't give out advice. this coach probably wants to be great not mediocre and you want to have him hold onto a guy cause his silly perimeter rating is "very nice"? come on! you mention defense, the guy is a 43 rated def, that isn't good. "one of the higher def ratings?" did you look at his team? that 43 def rating is tied for the fourth lowest. its not a good rating. "growing speed?" its a 48! it better be growing, that is a lowwwwwwwww number for a guard to begin with, but add in the fact of a terrible ath rating (which is the most important rating) you get a badddddddd d2 player. enough said.

Of his returning players, and that is afterall what he is asking about, he is tied for 4th on Def.  And of his backcourt players he is tied for first in def, so on this team, yes I keep him around.  And how do you figure ATH is the most important rating?  Does it not depend on the position or what you need a guy to do.  For where his program is he should keep the player because chances are good if he cuts him and has to fill 3 spots on 2's money he ends up spreading himself thin and gets 1 player.  There is a big difference between B+ and B- in recruiting not to mention that had it not been for a few inel.'s 2 years ago costing me a NT, my team would have been an A.  So its not fair to compare.  McCraig will be fine, not good, but good enough and way better than trying to recruit 3 guys next year and risking only getting 1.

how is ATH not the most important rating? where in the world do you have it ranked? you can't have it any lower the second most important. so no matter what a 28 ATH rating paired with a 48 SPD just doesn't cut it.

holding onto a guy that is barely above walk on level just because he could potentially be thin with his money is ludicurious. i would be shocked if he couldn't pick up a better player then mccaig with just a schollie and a phone call on the LAST day of recruiting.

I really don't like mccaig, even for my teams, which are all D3. I recruit for ath/spd/de, so to me, mccaig is a pretty big liability. Maybe once in a while, I'll throw in a low def or low ath player if the guy has great point guard ratings, 75+bh, 75+ passing.
