Exactly.  Tim Duncan, maybe?
I was thinking Tyler Hansbrough.

Yeah, good call.

Could make the argument that he wasn't a lottery lock, though, but that wasn't what I asked, I suppose,

I guess none of them were quite the best players in the country, but that whole Florida team that stuck around until their senior years were pretty darn good...
No, Noah, Horford, and Brewer were all juniors when they declared.

Although Noah may have been a top-3 pick after the tourney when he decided to stay.

Not saying every player of this caliber should leave early, but the logic that allows this player to stay four years whilst Joe Schmoe sophomore power forward who scores 306 points in two seasons declares early is borderline retarded.

Andrew Luck? (Or Tim Duncan if you prefer hoops?)

Well, Andrew Luck is different because of A., the NFL labor situation and B., I'm pretty sure he comes from some money anyway.  Tim Duncan would probably be a good example, though I don't think he'd have 1000 ratings in HD because he's not much of a perimeter player, nor would his speed be quite that good.  Tim Duncan would probably top out at like 850 based on HD player ratings.

What I really hate, is when they declare early to get selected at the end of the 2nd round.

The worst.  See just about every early entry Northwestern Allen has ever had.

I think you are severely undervaluing Tim Duncan.

Don't downplay Randolph Childress!  He was incredible in some of those ACC tournament games.

Severely.

Also, jeffdrayer's player didn't come from money, but somehow his parents are both driving new trucks and are living in the nicest apartment complex in Tuscaloosa, so leaving early didn't seem like a big priority for him.

So they've got that 1979 double-wide down at the gated trailer park?

he was the 13th pick, which I believe makes him a lottery pick. Probably would have been higher after his JR year. Not sure about SO year.

He certainly wasn't a lock, which was my point.

In this case, even though it's HD, this guy would know he's going to be one of the top picks.  Hansbrough certainly wasn't going to be a top-five pick, and wasn't a lottery lock if he came out.

That's the difference, in my opinion.
