Recruiting clarification w/in 70 miles Topic

I've heard some people say things about this recently, so I want to clarify: if I am recruiting from my D3 team, and there is a player on my D2 screen within 70 miles, can I recruit him straight up without trying pull him down?  Is it only if I get a backup message, or all D2 players?  Or do I need to get a specific message from him?  Or do I have it all wrong?

You have a better chance of getting him, but it by no means guarantees anything, you should still send a call.

Right, but I'm wondering if I can recruit him straight up, as opposed to pulling him down with evals.

If he is listed as Division 3 recruit when you search, you don't need to pull him down. If he's listed as a D2 recruit, you need to pull him down.

This is not my experience. You need to call the player. If he gives you the you are backup message, you still need to pull him down. If he gives you a message like a normal D3 recruit, you can recruit him straight up.

I have recruited players from 70 miles straight up and he only showed up in a D2 search, and never showed up in a D3 search.

OK, well it seems like people have been saying recently that you can recruit up a division without pulling down if he's within 70 miles, at least if you get a certain response to the call.

That's what I was looking for, thanks.

One more addition (I haven't tried this yet but others claim it can work). Low end D1 players within 70 miles can drop down to D2 as recruiting progresses, and these players are sometimes open to pulldown, meaning it's possible to recruit D1 players for a D3 team.

Like tianyi said you may not have to pull them down, sometimes you will and they will be open to efforts immediately. Also I think it's a bit retarded that guys who begin on the D1 list can end up going to a D3 school. A conference mate in one of my D3 conferences told me the 185th ranked C or something like that gave him the backup message.

AFAIK, you can't recruit/pull down D1 at D3.  There's been some threads about this and everyone said it couldn't be done, even by repeat DIII national champs.  On the other hand, ranked players do sometimes show up as a D2 recruit at the start of the recruiting process for some D3 teams, and these guys can be pulled down.

Well the lowest D1 players are in the mid 400s, so it's not ridiculous in terms of this game. In real life, it would be very rare for a player that got looks from D1 schools to end up at D3.

That's not really true.

There are a lot of guys who end up playing D3 after getting looks from really low level D1 schools.  For example, at one point in the MIAC in real life, there was something like 5 or 6 guys who had played D1 and transferred back within a five year period.

I think happens more often that you'd think in states like Wisconsin, where you have a bunch of good D3 programs and only one D2 school which is in one corner of the state.

I've pulled D1 listed players to D3, and recently too.     Now if I could just win games.

Transferring and beginning are two totally different things.

Agreed on the second paragraph.  But it's still a guy who was recruited D1 and playing at D3.

As for the WI schools, that stuff happens.  Some kids are looked at by low D1 schools, don't get any scholarship offers, and go D3 because it makes sense geographically.  Playing D2 basketball isn't as prestige as we like to believe on here.
