I didn't want this to get lost ...

Honestly, I'm shocked that people like this idea.

This is an insane amount of spoon feeding. Why not just have a computer recruit and set gameplans for us, too?

So much of recruiting is evaluating who looks good to you ... putting in a program that simply does this for you strikes me as completely awful and terrible for the game.

I can also envision very shortly after when guys will start trading formulas -- this is OR's formula, etc. and people use it. Awful.

And while I'm at it, I'll say that with all of the things in the game that really need to be address -- big and small -- it's stunning to me that after several months of complete radio silence, this is the first contact we're getting. Let's work on really addressing some lingering issues before we worry about an extraneous bell and whistle like this.

yeah  why the hell are they working on this   not only is it a bad idea there are so many other things they could be working on

yeah, agree, with all the stuff that's been discussed here on the forums, to see this (and to a lesser degree, situational logic) as items at the top of the list just seems superfluous.  Stepping over dollars to pick up pennies.  Would it be worthwhile?  Possibly, but at what cost?  Without a doubt the formulas will get passed around and it does resemble a bit of spoon-feeding, though I admit to keeping spreadsheets and doing something similar in the past, pre-potential.

Fix recruiting (recruit generation, regional dependence, that damn first cycle ball-and-chain), tweak jobs, and fix the high FG%/3FG% for starters...then work on the cosmetic stuff.  People are already using Excel to tweak the ratings to their liking, and good for them.  It shows initiative and passion, though I know this approach has its detractors.  But to put it in the program, that seems like overkill a bit, esp. when there are more pressing macro issues.

This feature would do nothing of relavance to either help or hurt the game.

it's something that wouldn't be a bad idea do yourself, but it's totally unnecessary for seble to do it for us or help us do it.

i agree that he should spend no time whatsoever on it.

Not a big fan of the new idea.

Well said daalter/girt.  I completely agree.

i'd like the idea more if there weren't other things for them to work on.

i think being able to program in our own likes and dislikes into a program to sort recruits is nice. many people do it on their owns. others do it on a whim in their heads. I'd like it less if there was a little box to check asking for the best PG recurits for a FB offense. But if you had to program it in yourself and adjust it yourself it's not a bad thing.

but i'd much rather they work on advertising the game, DI hiring (i've never been to DI, but i want to, and i'd like the hiring to work when i get there), the really high fg% (my team as a whole shot over 500% this season, which is unrealistic) and adding more offenses and defenses to the game (like box+1 or dribble drive or trap defenses etc)

Your team shot over 500%?  That's incredible.  I want some of those players.

My initial impression is 'no' to the new idea

I think its a good for the newbies idea.  it does nothing for people with 4 seasons experience.  I for one will be keeping my excel table.

That's a little short-sighted.  Granted, it wouldn't be high on the priority list, but I think comparing it to having the computer make decisions for us is off base.  It's simply helping organize things, not making decisions.  Didn't you claim that having multiple ways to limit searches was going to be bad too?  The more I think of it, having the computer help sort things and organize things is not bad.  If an ordinary, two-bit intern could do something, then have at it.  It simply makes things less time consuming and few cuts and pastes.

Will it give more advantages to those who are in the know?  Probably. But not as much as having schools be able to FSS with a leftover budget and look at recruits for 30 days in advance.

Is it something that I would deem a game changer?  No.  It's not by accident that users flocked to the sidelines once potential and FSS were introduced.  I'd maybe look there first.
