I don't hate or love it.

I do this myself and agree that it is spoonfeeding.. I would say no to the idea of an overall rating

I dont know what to think.  Im to dumb to probally figure out how to use it anyways.  I only a few seasons ago figured out you could view the recruits by ratings.  I envy you smart guys

I didn't want this to get lost ...

Honestly, I'm shocked that people like this idea.

This is an insane amount of spoon feeding. Why not just have a computer recruit and set gameplans for us, too?

So much of recruiting is evaluating who looks good to you ... putting in a program that simply does this for you strikes me as completely awful and terrible for the game.

I can also envision very shortly after when guys will start trading formulas -- this is OR's formula, etc. and people use it. Awful.

And while I'm at it, I'll say that with all of the things in the game that really need to be address -- big and small -- it's stunning to me that after several months of complete radio silence, this is the first contact we're getting. Let's work on really addressing some lingering issues before we worry about an extraneous bell and whistle like this.
That's a little short-sighted.  Granted, it wouldn't be high on the priority list, but I think comparing it to having the computer make decisions for us is off base.  It's simply helping organize things, not making decisions.  Didn't you claim that having multiple ways to limit searches was going to be bad too?  The more I think of it, having the computer help sort things and organize things is not bad.  If an ordinary, two-bit intern could do something, then have at it.  It simply makes things less time consuming and few cuts and pastes.

Will it give more advantages to those who are in the know?  Probably. But not as much as having schools be able to FSS with a leftover budget and look at recruits for 30 days in advance.

Is it something that I would deem a game changer?  No.  It's not by accident that users flocked to the sidelines once potential and FSS were introduced.  I'd maybe look there first.
Rails you are spot on in your first paragraph saying that using a computer for what it is for is not spoon feeding.  This is why we invented computers folks.  Also, if players feel that the time commitment is not as great you might actually get more players.

i don't think this is by any means the end of the world. it's essentially letting you save searches in the "Search by Attributes" section. Not much more than that...

the ability to copy ratings into excel and do calculations is not what should make you a great coach. even if it would help the lazy players out, it would save me a lot of time spent prepping for recruiting, so i'm all for it.

whether it's the biggest issue or worth pursuing, i digress.

This feature would do nothing of relavance to either help or hurt the game.

I disagree - there has been a lot of complaining about the new recruit generation curve. This should help (in theory) the majority of coaches to fill that recruiting gap by more easily finding available recruits that fit their system of game play. jmho.

How is what he proposing any different them me going through the pain of copying and pasting the recruits into excel, generating a formula for their overalls, then looking at those at the top?

its pretty much the same, with the excel sheet now incorporated into the game. I like the idea. saves me some time in my recruiting.

if I understand the proposal isnt to TELL us what the criteria should be - but rather to embed in the game interface the ability to specify the weight you individually want to give to the ratings - basically to simplify the arithmetic part of the game while not changing any element of the analysis - its just like what one can do with an XLS - seems great to make the game function better and remove the edge that some may have as a result of superior spreadsheet construction facility.....it would be spoon feeding IF HD gave us the right weighting to use...if there exists one right weighting, which I doubt

but to be honest, this feature isn't that useful, since it's just current ratings, with no projections based on potential. I think I'm gonna end up sticking with my own spreadsheet anyway.

Exactly what i will do.  Tianyi.

Although I have expressed some issues with lack of realism before I believe this would take that to new heights.  This would make it exceedingly easy to recruit players that definitely fit your system.  I do not have a spreadsheet because I find it fun to take gambles on players based on their attributes and how you think they will progress in your system.  I believe this could ruin the effort some put into recruiting as it would be very easy to populate your recruit list absent some digging.

I see this as useful but also feel it takes away many aspects of what make this SIM fun.

Make in-game planning more complex!  Do that if you raise the level of the game.  Just do that.  Something here.  When did this major aspect of the game, see a development.

Double team if leading scorer and LOSING

Every four minute game plan changes.

Sets of five guys you want to run together, for different reasons.

Things such as those.

Unless potential is somehow incorporated this will do nothing to help me in recruiting.

ETA: Since I also gave up on my spreadsheet analysis a while ago for gameplanning most of the time and just eyeball it now, it will actually do very little to help me at all, and probably, they way things work out, just mess something up and be annoying. I'd much rather see changes in gameplanning (allowing dedicated m2m matchups instead of just pg v pg, etc  for instance) or jobs process or rankings or seedings or something useful and relevant...
