considering the rigorous admissions criteria at the USMA, i get a kick out of the kid who is transferring from Army that has a WE of 1.

Then again I guess that's why he's no longer there.

I'm being serious. It's pretty obvious he got all of those guys considering him with FR start and just locked them down as backup.

Edit: not really locked them up. But I know alot of coaches who simply search for undecides. And if he lose 1/2 of those guys, he still got 7 backups.

Waste of money and very easy to knock him off of any considering list.  I know plenty of coaches who do this also and it's just a big waste of valuable funds (in my opinion, of course).

i like it. these bad coaches just put their name on a bunch of bad players, who cares.

I guess you could look at it that way.  Still think it's a bad strategy, but to each his own I guess.

I believe that a lot of coaches won't even check out a kid if he shows up considering someone else, so if it is a way to sort of reduce the battling pool I guess it does something, i dunno...wher my medicati,mn

2 hours later, he's down to only 6 considering him.

And without knowing potentials, I'd only take about 3 of them on my D2 team if I had the choice.

And 1 WE?  Is he serious?

They're all pretty far from home too, thus if someone wanted any of them, he'd probably be very easy to bump off.  Got to question anyone recruiting 5 of 6 JUCOs...just doesn't seem to be a very good coach or understand the concept of dropdowns/pulldowns

This is very true especially at D3 and D2. I know I for one only search for guys considering other schools maybe 2-3 times during recruiting unless Im really desperate for someone. Unless its a guy that I targeted before recruiting started I dont want to battle for any backup players.

I have seen coaches have success with this... But most of those coaches are at elite level DI schools.  And though it's possible to have success with a strategy like this at DII/DIII, this coach is an example of someone who just has no idea what they're doing recruiting-wise.

I have seen a lot of low D1 teams have success with this too.  Especially in a place like Texas.  They sign up 8-10 players that are good, and once the top local teams take their cut, not too many teams want to come and battle at long range, so they usually end up with 4-5 players they want.

There are some quality recruits there, though. If a few of them were closer to me, I would likely be recruiting them.
