Starting Spot Promise Topic

I promised a freshmen a starting spot to help fend off a couple schools. He started 6 of my last 8 games, but I still got the broken promise email. Any way to recoup those lost WE points? Went from 47 to 30.

You have to start him everygame until at least the conference tourny.

Absolutely, without a doubt, totally false.  You can get away with missing a couple of starts here or there without the player's Work Ethic dropping.  That mostly depends on his personality, but you do NOT have to start him every game.  If you do, you're absolutely sure to keep him happy, but you CAN miss a start here or there without affecting his WE.  I've done it alot in the past.

Now when you get that "You promised me starts, I'm getting ******" e-mail, you better start him from there on out (or at least until you get the "I knew I could count on you" e-mail).  Until that e-mail, you're good missing a start occasionally.

The problem is that, while he started 6 of your last 8, he didn't start in the 2 games prior to that.  If you space out the missed starts more, players generally don't complain.

I would say its about the same as the 80 percent rule for promised minutes. Promise a player 10 minutes nd they are generally happy with 8 plus. I would say its the same for starts. Promise him a start, and although you should start himn the first couple, he can miss a few along the way. This season past, I had a player with  a promised start go 23/26 and have no complaints. I don't think you can get the we points back tho, other than by playing him and starting him a bunch.

If you want to minimize his impact, go to the target minutes from fatigue.  Set him to 4-8 minutes.  Not ideal b/c he'll still be in the game at crunch time, but better than him playing 15+ minutes depending on this stamina.

newbie question -- could he just start him, set fatigue to FF, and set Distro to 1 and achieve same minimizing of impact?

could also set foul to less aggressive to make him spend more time on the bench.

If you notice the first post, he said he "has" already recieved the "I'm getting upset" e-mail, that's why I said to start him the "rest of the way" until at least the Conference Tourny. You are right though "IF" a player hasn't sent that e-mail. I've missed a couple of games here and there myself, like you said you've done, but that was before I got the "Hey Buddy, didn't you promise me" e-mail.

I agree with the other post about his "fatigue setting". Set him as your starter, set his fatigue to fairly fresh, and set his backup to getting tired. This way the backup, whom I'm assuming is a better player, will get more of the minutes, which is better for the team, and you still fulfill the promised start.

80% rule once was true - I do not believe it still works

on the question asked, I think you need to start him every game until you get that "thanks coach" email and then you can now and then skip one

an alternative - depending on the rest of your team and your situation is to switch to target minutes and start him with a target of 8 minutes - can screw up your rotation and target mins has some issues, but it is THE way to start him and minimize the mins

Sorry, I thought you were saying that you had to start him every game, all season.  Explaining your post like you did, you are correct.  I obviously misinterpreted what you were intending to say.  Apologies.

No, he would play much more in that scenario (assuming his stamina is reasonable, say 60 or greater).
