I have $10k and I'm looking at 10 potential players for 3 open spots.
Using the jbrew method, I'd send a scholarship offer to each player, eating up $1k. I now have $9k to spend on 3 spots ($3k/spot).
Using the conventional phone call method, I'd send a single phone call to each player, eating up $100. I now have $9,900 to spend on 3 spots ($3,300/spot).
Basically costing yourself around a HV per player in this example, depending on the distance. And, from the scholarship offers, you'd have no idea if the kid was immediately recruitable or if you'd have to pull him down. So you wouldn't know if you should start sending HV/CV or if you need to send SV to get him down.
