Your maximum number of scout trips? Topic

When pulling down a higher division player,  the concensus seems to be that the minimum number of scout trips to start with is around 10 or 11.  But what happens if the guy you're trying to pull down is reluctant or a hard sell?  How many scout trips will you invest in before giving up?

I've been told of experiences with 25 scouts, even 35 scouts before a few tough recruits finally pull.  How many are you usually willing to do before you decide to cut your losses and chase someone else?

Depending on the distance, I rarely have to go much over 10... are you trying to pull a guy very far away?

I have gone 30+

Nope.  He's practically next door.

Have you offered a scholarship as well?  (I'm really curious)
Is he considering someone?

I've done pulldowns before :)  Yes, the offer came after the 11th scout.  No, he's still Undecided.

It's not like I'm low on funds.  I've been very efficient this cycle.  Just sitting here worrying (maybe unnecessarily) before the next cycle of phone calls/scouts comes around.   Recruiting is the season of worrying :)

I guess a more focused question would be "at what point do you choose between going broke sending scouts and switching to a kid you're pretty sure you can get, even if he isn't quite as good?"

25 evals is what I would do.

all depends on how valuable the particular recruit is compared to other available recruits, whether the recruit fills an immediate need or if you can wait for the player to grow into his position ... and even if you could afford to go all in and are able to accept a walk-on if you dont get the player

I think if I hadn't pulled the guy down after 3 or at most 4 cycles, I would be too antsy to wait any longer on him. I've never spent more than 15 scouting trips on a player and that was the only time I went over 10. How many other players are ahead of him at his position?

He's good enough to start if I can sign him (mostly because my returning roster is crap).  But until he pulls down, guaranteeing him a start isn't an option.

I've passed 30 trips now, and if he doesn't start considering me when this cycle rolls over I'm either going to just sit tight (which is hard for me, I'm an antsy guy) or move on to another, more recruitable player.  I hate doing that, though.  This guy could be a difference maker by his junior year.

If he really is that good, try sending the start with 1 more SV, I've had that work.

Thanks, tkimble.  I don't want to overhype the guy - on a good team he'd be a backup player for at least 2 years.  But my squad is that bereft of talent.  I feel like I could recruit a blind kangaroo  and it would be an upgrade.  "Can't shoot a lick, but man does he have the hops!"

New cycle in 20 minutes.  We'll see.

Addendum: he finally broke down under my unrelenting pressure and is now considering me.  I did a recount and it only took 28 scout trips.  Lordy, this recruiting stuff is stressful :)

Good job grabbing him up ethan. I may have grabbed him if you didn't. Good player and will do wonders for you if you can keep him.

Thanks, Jbob.  I have some backup cash in case I need to defend him.  All I have to do now is hang onto the wheel for 24 hours :)

Couple vital pieces of info were left out (and justifiably so, no sense giving away any recruiting info on one of the forums.  That would just be asking for problems), but we won't discuss those until you sign the kid, okay?
