I offered a guy a promised start but I don't really want to play him much. So I was trying to figure out how to limit his minutes. I would not mind the guy playing about 10-15 minutes a game I just don't want them with the starting lineup.

1 option I came up with was to set him at mopup. I supose I could also do target minutes and that would limit his PT as well.

Does anyone have anoy other options?

The mopup option doesn't work. The engine won't recognize it and will not allow that setting. It has been tried before. Your best bet appears to be target minutes or else bite the bullet and hope he has low stamina.

play him as much as possible to get him injured. problem solved. OR start him, give the ball only to your worst player while running uptempo, and set it to "if losing and game is out of reach, give more time to backups". OR get him to flunk.

in all honesty i think you have the realistic bases covered.

Weena what do you mean it "wont recognize" I was able to save my lineup with him set at "mopup." Do you mean that he will play until he he drops below FF?

Well, that was my understanding. I have never been in that situation but others who have been have posted that the minutes were not limited. But IIRC, they also said they couldn't even complete the setting so maybe it will work now. Hopefully someone who had that experience will post here.

i tried to do that last season in Tark.  i had him first on the depth chart and set to mopup hoping he'd come right out and not play again, but instead the sim just started the 2nd guy on my depth chart and the guy set to mopup didnt play at all.

Set his foul option to 'less aggressive'.  WOuldn't solve him coming in at the end of games, but presuming normal Frosh IQ problems, he would come out for long stretches and sit if in foul trouble.

Which team?

mopup wont get him starts

injury is very unlikely

best combo of options in my experience is

1. target minutes - you can give him the lowest target (so long as you only promised the start)

and

2. no study hall - hope he becomes ineligible for the second half of the season

Leave him off the depth chart and he wont play

@ Arssanguinus, It is Francois on my Army team.

@ brip87, How does that work? I mean I know how to leave him off the depth chart obviously, but won't that count against his starts? Or, does it have to do more with the ratio of games played to starts, therefore if he does not play in the game at all he can't get mad for not starting.
The only problem with this is that he is better than my walkon option and I need him to play.

I guess that puts me between a rock and a hard place. If he has to play then he has to start.

You can play him against teams your better than, sit him a few Target games against superior teams and hope he doesn't notice. Don't have to play him when conference tourney begins or put him at small forward with your second worst player so you are happy with the other 4 positions. Not sure the exact percentage you have to start him...60% of the games?

This is why I hesitate to promise starts OR minutes except in very extreme situations.  (Like I'm in a battle for a recruit and low on funds)

Aside from the fact that a 1st year player isn't going to play as efficiently as returning vets, you're sometimes caught in a crunch where the guy may not deserve more minutes, or a start, but you're already committed.

My first season in HD, I had a guy I promised minutes to and quickly discovered that I hate gameplanning by Target Minutes.  Of course, I didn't know what I was doing then (still don't, not really) but it became apparent that I was playing a couple of my low-Stam guys so much they were wearing out before the end of the game.  Switching to Fatigue makes that aspect easier to handle and I just accept the consequences of assigning "Fairly Fresh" to a guy I don't want to play 30 mpg.

I'm in this situation right now, though.  I promised a ranked recruit a start this season since he was so much better out of the box than my returning center, and I'll take my lumps with foul trouble and botched plays until his IQ goes up.  I plan to set him to "Fairly Fresh" in combo with "less aggressive" on fouls so he will come out earlier on foul trouble.  I'll take whatever comes from that.

Why can't there be an option below "Fairly Fresh" that isn't quite "Mop up"?

simple. just set up your team for target minutes and put this guy at 4-8 mins and he'll probably play around 10 to 12 if started.

the threshold is around 80% of games played.  if he doesnt play it wont count
