New to D2, quick recruiting advice? Topic

Hey all,
I have hardley ever coached D2.  Took over a A prestige D2 school in Crum, recruiting starts Sunday. Couple quick questions:

What is the upper limit for D1 pulldown/dropdowns, #150 ranked?  #125?  Am I close?  I know I can just call, but I want a rough target, like I know its a waste to call #90 and most #190's will talk to me, but any ideas on the middle ground.

Any chance of a D2 grabbing a D1 sim recruit?

It really depends on if the new limits Seble put in have gone into affect in Crum. If they haven't believe it or not you can contact the #90 guy and will often be able to pull him down. For example an A prestige team signed the #74 C who was a high school senior and was 480 miles away.

the upper range varies greatly from world to world and position to position.  It's generally easiest to wait until the sims do their recruiting an hour before we can.
Anyone above that block of sim recruits is a stretch for a D2 team.  Anyone below it, is open to the elite D2 teams.

An A prestige may indicate you can recruit within the top 10-15 players at that position, unless it's a local, and then he should be obtainable.  That's where a couple calls to a few players seem to pinpoint your ceiling.

You may be able to pull a recruit away from a sim team.  I suggest waiting for the first Word on the Street and see what the status is.   If the sim is tight, a top priority, or solid I'd probably move on.
If the Word on the Street suggests they're open to recruitment start off with a simple call to the coach or player.

Finally the amount if recruiting effort to pull one away seems to vary as well.  Sometimes it can be done for under $5k for a local.   I've also spent over $12k and never got the recruit to consider me.

Pulling down ranked players can also depend on distance.  In the Smith world recruiting period just ended, my "C" prestige D2 team pulled down the #137 ranked center.  But he was 10 miles from campus.  Several other recruits ranked #177, 180+ wouldn't even talk to me.

I will add here that it was also about twice as expensive as the other 2 pulldowns I did who were not ranked and were 170+ miles away.  I ended up sending 28 scout trips before he finally dropped.

I've been told in the past that D2 teams have very little, if any, chance of recruiting players ranked higher than 115.  But that was prior to this last update, and I don't know if it also takes prestige into account.  General consensus? (Edit: re-read Kmason's post.  Apparently it has changed.)

This past recruiting period I was also in a battle for the #104 PG. But like I said it depends on if the change Seble put in to limit D2 schools reach went into affect for Crum. If it has you'll just have to make calls to find out. You can probably find out just by looking at your D2 list right now. If you see for example the #165 SG listed as a D2 recruit you'll be able to go after guys who ranked pretty high. However if the majority of the ranked D2 guys you see on your D2 list are SFs and Cs and are ranked in the 170s and lower than the new limits have probably installed.

Yes, but your range is most likely 180-200 for B/B+, 165-200 for A+ from what I have seen. Our Cali conference in Knight only pulled down like 5 ranked kids in the whole conference. Not counting the backyard bonus, which I think adds a decent amount of leeway.

Yep, the party's over. I ended up with a couple guys off my DII screen with my "A" prestige.

I had to steal a D II guy from a conference mate with my A+

Thanks guys, this has been VERY helpful...trying to scramble and setup my high/med/lo priority screen and didn't want to aim for a bunch of #125 guys that I got no shot with.

REALLY wish there was a SV that I could use that would target something specific.  I keep seeing guys that are like SG's with 19 Passing and High potential.  IF its high high, I am interested, if not, not thanks, but I am not suer I wan tto invest 4 scout trips to learn one thing.

I'm not seeing that in Iba at all.

Damn, that team you took over was really, really good. Too bad those seniors are leaving, they are filthy.

Probably didn't go into affect in Iba yet. 2 a day worlds are on shorter cycles by 15 days I think. We haven't recruited in Tark with the new restrictions yet but just judging from the players that show up on my D2 list the pool is much more shallow.

What DJP describes happened in Knight seems remarkably similar to how things used to be before Seble made the change that allowed for the super studs at D2 and D3.

I did have a pretty good D3 resume...I thought it was the best job available.
