Am I missing something? Topic

I expected Randall Holt to be one of my better scorers this season and help fill the hole created when my two leading (by a mile) scorers graduated after last year.  But here I am after 6 games and he's shooting 35% and turning the ball over like it's his job.  The turnovers I can see.  His passing rating is definitely a bit lower than I'd prefer at SF.  But even so, I definitely think he should be turning it over less than twice per game, and I anticipated 50+% shooting.  Is this just bad luck over a 6-game sample, or is there some reason he's just not as good as I thought he would be?

at first glance i'd chalk it up to bad luck. if you increase his distro you will know better, obviously

what do you have his 3pt frequency setting at?
3/28/2011 4:29 PM
-1.  Only 4 of his 40 shots have been from beyond the arc (and he's 0 for that 4).

hmmm, i was hoping it wasn't -1, but that puts a wrench into things. i'd play around with that. maybe go with a zero or -2 setting. i know its only 6 games, but he should at least have one game with a glimpse of domination and its just not there.

You'll notice that his best game (offensively) was against La Verne...

I don't think he's gonna be a dominant scorer shooting north of .500. Ath/spd/bh are all on the mediocre side, and he doesn't have the 80+lp/per to overcome this.

Your player looks alot like this guy I have, and he's simply not efficient on offense.

Agree with him. He is a 8-10 ppg player against a decent schedule imo.

I was going to say what tianyi said.  This guy doesn't look like a dominant scorer to me.  Should he be shooting a higher percentage?  Yes, but it is just 6 games.  He is just average at a lot of things and not elite or even very good at any one thing, so I don't see this guy being much of a scorer.

I wouldn't ever expect this guy to be a big scorer for me. He would be a good role player who plays good D and can rebound a bit for a wing.  His fro shooting doesn't help his efficiency either and he doesn't have his IQ up to A yet.

That guy would be a pretty decent D2 SF and you guys are saying that he's mediocre/average at best for D3?  No wonder I can't seem to win anymore, I'm obviously overrating players during recruiting.......because if that guy is only decent for D3 then I clearly need to go back to the drawing board.

I don't think anyone said he's average at best for D3; people are saying he's an average scorer at best for D3.

Whoever implied that I thought he would be a "dominant" scorer is putting words in my mouth.  I never said that at all.  I'll point out yet again that he's only taken 40 shots in 6 games.  For those of you who are mathematically challenged or just painfully lazy, that's only 6 2/3 shots per game.  I think he's good enough to shoot 10-15% better than what he's doing on that volume of shots.  I also think it's borderline ridiculous that he's turning the ball over more than twice per game when he's only taking that many shots.  He's getting less than 3 shots off per time he turns it over.

The turnover is bad luck, sure, but I'm pretty sure he's not going to shoot north of .500. Look at the guy I posted. They are extremely similar (I might even argue my guy is slightly better on offense). Your guy has a 6 pt edge in ath to trade off 14 pts in spd, and 7 pt lp edge while my guy has 20 pt edge in bh. My guy is not even close to shooting .500 with a low distro, and that's with an elite PG dishing it out.

The .690 fg% for the last 2 seasons on my player is clearly inflated by 1 putbacks/tip ins a game. Similarly, Holt's fg% in the past seasons are also inflated for the same reasons.

Wow. I almost want quit.

If he is only an okay scorer, than I must be an absolutely terrible coach/recruiter. I had no one near that when I was at D-III (and I felt good about making it to the second round two years in a row). In fact, I don't even have something better than him on my D-II. No wonder I struggle to compete from time to time.
