Recruiting higher division players at <70 miles Topic

I'm at D2.  There is a player 60 miles from my campus who is ranked #47 at his position and #233 overall who I would like to recruit.  Normally I would say I have no chance at that player, but since he is within 60 miles of my campus will he consider me?

That's kind of a reach, but I think it's going to depend on your prestige.

Doesn't hurt to send him a phone call and see what he says, but if he gives you a backup message be prepared to spend lots of money on scout trips to pull him down.  Then hope that a D1 school doesn't ambush him before signings start.

Zero chance.  ZERO.

ethan, that is my concern precisely.  If I go after him and spend a lot and get him considering me then I might miss on him due to a D1 coming in late.  He is in a state that probably isn't widely scouted by D1 schools.  I'm guessing it will be a tough pull down.  My prestige is only B- (this will be just my 3rd season at a school that was C- when I took over), so it isn't overly high.  I would love to get the player, but I have a feeling he might be a money trap.

mduncan, it's a moot point ... reinsel is correct here.

At a B prestige in d2; I was able to pull down 1 ranked in 130 range, 540 overall, 2 players in 550-560 overall, 160-170 ranked. that was upper limits after calling, waiting for backup message, dropping etc. Hope that helps.

If anyone was in top 100-200 overall, not just individual position, no..I send lots of phone calls including some within 100 miles. Even the Nat champ, runner up, other a+ prestige teams never recruited close to the player your looking at.

Thanks for the answers guys.  I figured he was out of reach, but just wanted to be sure.

If you were an A+, you might have a shot at a top 100 recruit that was that close, but try not to put too much $ into pull-downs that are so highly ranked, because a DI program will not hesitate to steal the recruit at any time.

No shot, he will blow you off and go Juco, play intramurals, smoke crack and play on the prison squad before signing with you.

I honestly wouldn't say that. It depends if his recruiting is still working with the old recruits under the old system where D2's reach was insane. This past recruiting period in Tark an A prestige school signed the #74C who was 480 miles away and was a high school senior. D3 schools were even able to sign ranked players.

A B- prestige D2 school is not gonna sign the #47 ranked player at his position.  Zero chance.  ZERO.

Didn't realize it was a B- school, yea no chance. High A+ might've had a chance in the old system.
