How to Stop Guards That Don't Shoot 3s Topic

I always have trouble when a team has perimeter players that dominate the player distribution, but don't shoot 3s.  Do they hit jumpers, do they drive, how do they score??  I've tried defending the perimeter, tried balanced and neither seem to work.  Should I back it in and hope they don't start poping the 3s?  Any suggestions?

What about packing it in closer, -3 will cut off lanes so to speak if they are driving to the basket. Sounds like they are midrange shooters.

keep in mind where their points are coming from. If they are scoring from the paint often, then you might want to sag in more. If their guards are scoring well, but its not from the paint, they may be taking mid range jumpers and maybe a -1 or a -2 might work.

It really depends how athletic they are. If they are really athletic you just have to have a really good defender on him or have a really good defensive team because if you pack it in against a very athletic guard he's going to get fouled a ton. For example I have a guard on my Arkansas team that only takes about 2 3s a game but averages 25.2 ppg while taking 9.5FTs per game. His ath/sp combo is nearly as good as it gets which gets him fouled a bunch. http://whatifsports.com/hd/PlayerProfile/Ratings.aspx?tid=13765&pid=1758558

kmason, that guy's actually a very inefficient scorer, I don't think you're doing yourself any favors by piling on so much distro.

Just ran the #'s, his FG% isn't great, but overall he's a decently efficient player, and he's also the most efficient player kmason's three scorers and the other two have significanltly less distro.  I'd give more to the Jr. C because he's almost as efficient.

Like Tkimble pointed out my team just isn't very talented. He's by far my best scorer and it's not even close. Although Novoa may seem to be nearly as efficient that's only because he gets a distro boost whenever he has a favorable matchup and his distro is low when he doesn't so he has a lot of games where he was taken 5 or fewer shots, whereas Montgomery is the only player that has some type of advantage in every game whether it be an ath or sp edge and his BH helps him score. Tough to boost other guys distro when they don't have great ratings in the scoring areas or are at an ath/sp disadvantage. Just a case of losing a couple of battles for guys who could really help.
