That makes me feel a little better, but apparently I didn't adjust my targeting to compensate. My Naismith D3 team made its usual bunch of 1st-cycle phone calls to lower-rated D2 pulldown prospects and I was shocked at the number of them who flat-out rejected me or just didn't return my call. I usually expect some rejections, but off hand I'd put my rejection rate this cycle at around 70%. I noticed quite a few getting picked up by D2 programs.
I'm not happy with this recruiting class and its set my rebuilding plans back a season, but I guess I need to play it smarter next cycle.
How high were you aiming. I just started a rebuild in Naismith D3 and got pretty decent response with C- prestige. It's hard to get response from anyone that is rated higher than 450 with C-.
I had potential pulldowns targeted that were as high as 470, but the ones I really wanted were in the 450-460 range.
In two cases, the recruit stonewalled me after my scout trip barrage and allowed another program to jump in and grab him. I didn't have the money to battle.
In the other cases, they either just didn't answer my phone call or told me to forget it.
I'm going to be doing a few things differently next time, but one of my problems in Bethany is that it's on that little finger of territory that juts north, smack between Ohio and Pennsylvania. I'm surrounded by good D3 programs so the competition can be pretty tough.
