hey mrpolo, if you'd like to start a waiting list for when dahs fails, I'd like to go on it.  I don't have a ton of D III experience, but I've got a D II title and back-to-back championship game appearances in 2 worlds. I'm in the NAC in Allen learning to master D III, so in 5 seasons or so I ought to be good to go...

This Clarkson squad won't be starting from ashes will it?

Hey dahs, what O and D you gonna run, and, if you aren't going to succeed by season 4, could you start the switch to M2M for me? Thanks
Given that I've only got 5 years to build up to very good, I probably won't be trying to change the systems, whatever they are...
thats one of the many reasons its a five season challenge. . . .

if you wish to change O/D, you can, as the FR you recruit next season will be seniors in the $$$$ season

Yeah, but if you have a down year changing systems it will impact recruiting the year you bring in the senior class for season 5.

Marko, I'll grant you the best D3 conference in HD. D3.

dalt, i'm not sure that's true, and I'm in the Upstate... but it's one of the two best conferences in d3, all worlds. Naismith CAC has more accomplishments over the last 10 or so seasons (and further back has been about the same), and the two are 1-3 in the all-time d3 conf RPI charts. I'm in both, and think the Upstate is harder to win in, but not necessarily a better conference.

I think it is a pretty tight battle between those two - I think the CAC may have more elite teams, but I was able to turn Chestnut Hill around from doormat to decent pretty quickly, and I've kind of scuffled at Brandeis.  Some of that can be attributable to my own failings as a DIII coach, but that is a separate discussion.

I do have to agree with girt though - they are the toughest D3 conferences.  I've never seen anything as brutal as the meat grinder that is the ACC in Allen.  To support:

I'd join with pepwaves in the trash talking except my team went 27-4 this season with 2 of the losses to Upstate

the path to get to DI is extremely tough.  and no offense to those coaches in the ACC.  they are probably a better collection than we have in the Upstate. .  .

But playing at elite DI (once you get there) is a lot easier than playing in DIII.....  on little mishap at DIII and your prestige plummets.  at DI you really have to screw the pooch for MANY seasons to affect your prestige

plus DI caters to the elites. . .   the drop off in teams is huge.  going from 50 to 100 is a big difference.  going from 100 to 200 is huge.  and going from 200 to 300 is another HUGE drop in talent.  its (not easy) but MUCH easier to maintain a top level program at DI than DIII.

so hats off to the ACC and the 12th team having a 55 RPI.  but put those 12 coaches in a DIII conference and good luck getting 6/7 teams into the NT

that last post was for you!

but i really dont want to get into it.

its like arguing who's better, Ty Cobb or Ted Williams?

the argument can rage on for years, and there will be very little accomplished.  so, i tip my hat to you and the ACC.  maybe you all should take over an empty conference in wooden and settle it??  haha jk.  good luck buddy

oh.  and the answer is easy, Ty Cobb.  but thats for another day. . . .

any D1 coach care to take a stab at this?

not trying to start a war.  as i would think any DI coach would agree with my previous statement.  its super easy (ONCE YOU GET THERE) to maintain an elite conference.

sorry, not super easy.  just much easier than DIII

now, if it starts a turf war and gets me 12 elite coaches in Wooden. . . . then, you guys SUCK.  ACC (allen) is a bunch of chump pieces of crap.  you guys would be lucky to get 2 teams into the NT if you were playing in DIII Wooden.

"Must not have more than 4 seniors"

that's a terrible rule. why should the coach be hindered on who and how many players he can recruit? let the coach, coach.

Because he doesn't want them creating a super class, taking his money, and bolting.

It would be super easy to dump everyone, have two six-person classes, and dominate with 12 upperclassmen.

It's his $100, his rules.
4/11/2011 6:14 PM
and what about the other teams in that conference? do you think they have restrictions on how many seniors they can  have?
