I like to run the zone alot. Im curious to d1 coaches out there, will i see any benefit to having SB/REB in GUARDS? specifically at the big6 level.

or is guards in the zone, like every other defense, just in need of ath+spd+defense

Well, PRIMARILY in need of, and I don't know about the SB< but some rebounding in guards can definitely be a useful addition to their cores.

I run zone with my LSU team and SB in gaurds doesn't seem to make much difference. It certainly doesn't hurt for your guards to have decent SB but I wouldnt let that be the deciding factor on whether to target a recruit or not. Rebounding on the other hand is a definite benefit and I do try to recruit gaurds who can pull down a few boards.

If you can get your sgs and especially those guardswho can play the 3 to have 20+ reb I've found you can play the 3-2 zone much more effectively. Running a 3 guard 3-2 with 2 very good reboundersdown low is benefitted a lot by having some guards with rebounding numbers. Although always nice to have, it doesn't seem to make that much of a difference running a 2-3.

Agreed - guards who can rebound are huge in a zone.  I've not really noticed a huge difference if your guards are better at shot blocking.  However, having a SF (or SG playing the 3 spot) who can block shots is a nice advantage.

Reb at the gaurd position is always nice to have but in Zone even more so. SB is one of those categories thats nice to look at but really doesn't mean alot IMO. I can see where SB could help at the 3 spot in a 2-3 but not enough to really look for that trait in a player.

I think SB helps at the 3 spot more than most coaches think.  SB is more than just blocked shots; a good SB ranking also means altered shots (misses) for your opponents.  If your SF in a 2-3 zone has high SB, it should help the overall interior defense a lot.

They need to fix rebounding in the new engine with zone, period, to make it viable again.  The FG% drop has meant more rebounding chances and thus too big of a penalty against the zone.

Aside from that, it helps to either have a PF or a SF with good Ath/RBD at your 3 spot.  the 1 and 2 spot, I haven't noticed a big difference either way, because guards don't rebound much in HD, in comparison to real life.

That's an important point.  I suspect that many coaches are unaware that altered shots occurr in games, since they are not part of the box score or play by play.  I don't know how one would go about estimating this effect.  I've had point guards who would block, say 3 shots over the course of the season.  I figure that if they blocked 3 then they probably altered at least 3 more.  It may not seem like a lot, but if that makes 6 extra stops caused by one player then that is valuable.

Actually altered shots are part of the play by play. From what I've experienced and been told by alot of guys thats played more than me is that SB doesn't cause more misses it just plays as a block sort of like instead of saying misses long or short it will be blocked or altered but its just a miss, Basically saying that if you have a guy shoot 4-10 and have 2 shots blocked and 2 altered and 2 fail short and the defender had a high SB rate then the offensive player would have still gone 4-10 but would have all been missed long/short against the same def if he had a low SB rate.  I have no idea if this is true I guess I'll have to do some studies and see what I come up with.
