I actually quite enjoy threads like this. Especially when the information requested gets attached by someone. I think a lot of people who play this game not only love basketball, they love the stats the games generate and also the ratings that generate the games. The numbers can be very insightful and helpful or they can be simply interesting.
The fact that topics get revisited on the forums is also great. The game is ever changing. I’m sure someone wrote a thread on practice plans 2 years ago, but I’m also pretty sure that aspect of the game has changed since then. I’d rather hear people’s thoughts on that as it relates to current game play. Plus, someone else might have a new opinion on something today and may not have commented on a thread in the past, or may be new to the game. So, if you have a question, bring it up. If you have an answer or opinion, state it. If you don’t care for the thread, make a snarky comment and move on the next one.
All that said, I did some quick research on the topic at hand. This is not a total average of every team in Allen world, just the best, worst and middle-est in each division. This was taken by finding the conference with the highest RPI, the lowest RPI and the conference with the average of the two. Then, the ratings for those 36 teams were totaled and averaged, giving us the following results (I don’t know how to format things on the forums very well so its not in chart form, sorry).
DI Allen Team Averages (ACC, A10, Colonial):
ATH – 63.9
SPD – 51.9
REB – 48.7
DEF – 65.3
BLK – 40.4
LP – 50.2
PER – 47.1
BH – 50.9
PAS – 52.8
WE – 62.9
STA – 76.0
DUR – 62.2
TOT – 671.9
DII Allen Team Averages (Gulf South, Penn State Ath Conf, Northern Sun):
ATH – 46.7
SPD – 46.5
REB – 38.8
BLK – 31.2
LP – 39.2
PER – 39.8
BH – 43.1
PAS – 42.2
WE – 62.2
STA – 76.6
DUR – 59.5
TOT – 574.3
DIII Allen World Averages (North Atlantic, Commonwealth, Heartland):
ATH – 32.7
SPD – 38.9
REB – 30.9
DEF – 32.5
BLK – 24.6
LP – 29.6
PER – 29.3
BH – 34.4
PAS – 32.1
WE – 59.0
STA – 74.6
DUR – 59.6
TOT – 478.1
Perhaps that’s helpful. It can give you a clue as to how your team stacks up against the division average. I think it’d be a lot more helpful if it could be broken down into PGs, SGs, SFs, PFs and Cs (per the original poster's request). Also a lot more work. Here’s the part that I find very interesting:
DI Allen World, ACC Conference only averages (our resident super-conference):
ATH – 83.4
SPD – 60.8
REB – 59.0
DEF – 83.5
BLK – 50.8
LP – 62.1
PER – 58.6
BH – 60.4
PAS – 63.6
WE – 60.7
STA – 75.4
DUR – 63.3
TOT – 781.5
Pretty much 10 to 12 points higher than average in each ratings category. But, if you happen to be playing one of the 45 ACC teams in this season’s Allen World NT starting tonight, take note…as a rule, they are lazy as sloths. Their WE’s are well below the DI national average, the DII national average and are approaching the depths of DIII average work ethic. (Suckers).
