Systems for assigning SH minutes? Topic

i will come right out and admit that i lose more players than anybody i have ever seen. but, they are almost always a product of failing to adjust at midterms. for a few months, when i started with this new strategy, i pretty much lost nobody, or maybe one guy. but at the time, i actually would notice the mid terms email as soon as it came out, and acted accordingly. it seems like 70-80% of your GPA comes from the 2nd half of the semester - much like the real college situation. so honestly, i feel like those early season minutes are wasted. much like the real college situation ;)

I don't have an exact system, but here's about what I do:

Freshmen - based on HS GPA
GPA of 3.5 and above: 2-3 mins
GPA of 3.0 to 3.4: 4-5 mins
GPA of 2.7-2.9: 7 mins
GPA of 2.5-2.6: 8-9 mins
GPA below 2.5: 10 mins

For sophs, If their college gpa is 3.0 or above, I generally don't give study hall. if it's mid/high 2's, I give a couple mins. If it's low 2's, I give 3-5. Upperclassmen I don't give sh minutes unless it's someone with a low college gpa.

Maybe I had someone go ineligible years ago, maybe not ... but I can't even remember the last time I had one (although I do sometimes have guys who are struggling at midterms and I have to bump things up a bit).

thanks for the input, guys. I feel like I have definitely been wasting some minutes... I'm going to cut back to 5 as my starting point as of next season, and go from there.

I think that will generally be OK, except you are almost certainly going to run into problems with freshmen who have low HS GPA's. I would not start them at five.
