Can a guy that sent you a fall back message reject your intial attempt at a scholarship with 10 scouting trips?  I erased messages from my players, but a guy that I swore that gave me the pulldown message just rejected my schollie offer paired with 10 scouting trips.  Does this happen, or is it likely that I didn't actually get that message from him?

That happened to me last cycle, for the first time ever.  Twice.

Something's changed (though I typically go for 11 SVs instead of 10). 

In any case, you might have to throw more SVs at him (6 first, then 3 at a time) until he lets the offer stand.

Now I am really confused.  I just got this message: "Coach, to be quite honest, there is just no way I see myself at Maine, Farmington next season. No hard feelings, I hope. I just have to do what's in my best interest right now."  What does this mean?  Is this basicaly a "no" or is he just playing hard to get??

Someone else is investing in him. If you had initial your backup keep in touch message. Will take more evals. Can you afford 10 more,is he close? Gl.

Some coaches have needed as many as 25-30 evals

I didn't have enough cash to go after him further.  I had 3 spots open and pulled down 2 others players.  I ended up grabbing a DIII player with decent potentials to fill that spot...

I've had this happen to me. Had one last spot to fill, got the backup message from a kid. Invested about 10-12 scouting trips on him. Nothing. Put in another 5, saving just enough for a couple home visits and a promise. Still nothing. I put the rest into scouting trips for a total of about 20. Then sat and waited with no more money wondering why this kid didn't fall and if he eventually would.

Couple cycles later, I saw him considering another DII school. I was about to get ticked. Luckily, the coach was kind enough to tell me what he had done.... seems while I was putting in my 20 scouting trips over several cycles, he was all the way up to 30.

when you say he rejected the scholie offer do you mean that he wasn't considering you or that you had to re-offer the scholarship because he declined it? If the latter, are you sure you got the backup message? Because if you did get a back up message he is not supposed to refuse the offer outright...

For some reason with my D3 team in Iba I can usually pull guys down with 10 evals and a schollie, but with my D2 team in Crum it usually takes 12-14 scouting trips with a schollie.  I do think some of it has to do with how far into the next level you are reaching for pull downs.  If you are at a D3 school and get the backup message from a highly rated D2 recruit my experience has been that it takes more than 10 evals to execute that pull down as opposed to pulling down a lower rated D2 player.  With my D2 school I've had to use 20 before to execute a pull down.  It was for the Sr C on my Henderson St. team, Heilig.  He was rated #196 at C coming out of high school as a D1 recruit.  That was before the latest update to recruiting which makes it virtually impossible to pull down a rated player to D2 unless your have very high prestige.
