Offensive rebounds... Topic

I'm curious as to what affects offensive rebounds. Obviously the reb attribute, and I've heard ath plays a big role, but often my teams with a huge advantage in both areas will get more defensive rebounds, but only half as many off boards. I know the def settings as well as your specific defense also affect this , but is there "a crash the offensive boards" option I don't know about?

What do you mean when you say half as many offensive boards? As in the # of offensive rebounds is 1/2 of the # of defensive rebounds? That's simply standard basketball. There's not a single player or team in history that grabbed more off reb than def rebounds.

To give an example, I outrebound opponent X 35-30, but in off rebounds, he outrebounds me 14-7, (thus I have 28 def boards and he has 16)although I have significant ath and reb advantages.
In an example like this, maybe simply the shooting percentages factor into it a lot more than I noticed initially. We would each get about 2/3 of the rebounds at our defensive ends, there are simply more rebounds to be had after one team's plethora of missed shots.

Thats what I woudl have said. . what percentage of your own missed shots do you grab?  You know, your Offensive rebounds divided by your offensive rebounds plus his defensive rebounds vs the same in reverse for him.

That last part isn't true.  The team i coach has no desire to box out.  We pretty much let teams just shoot until they make it.

As a complete aside...

Coach Wooden didn't like boxing out. He wanted his guys to go get the ball. 'Course, he didn't like defensive minded players either. He wanted guys who loved to score. He just wanted an aggressive mind set.

nbstowman, which team are you referring to? Unless you are seeing this for a whole seasons worth of stats, 1 individual game doesn't really mean much. Even Dwight Howard and Kevin Love have had off nights.

And you should look at off rebounds in terms of oreb%, not just raw number.
