Three more coaches have expressed interest in Penn State:

1) Pat Chambers of Boston Univ.

2) Pat Flannery, who coached Bucknell for 14 years but resigned 3 years ago;

3) Larry Brown interviewed with Penn St. but the school isn't pursuing him further

wait, what? Larry Brown is interested in that dreck position but the SCHOOL isn't pursuing it? Morons.

Well, he's 71 years old.  That's always a problem for recruiting.  He'd be expensive, as well.  I really don't think Penn State is interested in basketball...it's a time filler until spring practice begins

Good point.  Penn State doesn't recruit well, anyway so maybe Larry Brown would sell his 'NBA preparedness' .   It's got to be embarrassing for Penn State to lose their coach (an alum!!!) to Navy.

It's one thing to be behind Penn State football in the University pecking order, but when the men's basketball team is also behind women's volleyball in priority use of facilities, that tells an entirely different story.

Remember, they were also booted out of their arena for a Bov Jovi rehearsal and a career fair.

Sadly, the biggest story of Penn State basketball involves the women's team and long-time coach Renee Portland.  She had a "no drinking, no drugs, no lesbians' policy.  She dismissed players if she discovered they were lesbian.  Portland and  the university were sued and a documentary, "Training Rules" was made about the policy.

Jim O'Brien, who coached at St. Bonaventure, Boston College and Ohio State before being fired in 2004 for recruiting violations, has resurfaced as the new coach at DIII Emerson.

Dave Balza, who led Fla. Gulf Coast from DII to DI before being fired, is now the coach at DIII Bethany Lutheran

It's fairly unusual for a DI coach to end up in DIII but I'm sure it's happened before

O'Brien has fallen hard. WOW!!!

He's 62 and there's no chance of a D1 job.  I suspect this is his "I'm retired and bored" pasttime

As for Dave Balza, he's a young 37ish and had been the only coach in the short history of Fla. Gulf Coast.  They started in DII and moved up to DI 4 years ago. After 3 consecutive 20-loss seasons, they wanted a change.  Half the fans were leaving after the women's game and not watching the men.   He had a year left on his contract and was being reassigned to a con-coaching position.  But, eventually, the school bought out his contract so he could leave.

Balza's a very religious man. Here is an exerpt from his acceptance at Bethany Lutheran.

"I would like to thank Dr. Bruss, VP Steve Jaeger and AD Karl Fager for the opportunity to serve the Lord as a Christian mentor while developing the academic and athletic talents of the young men in the basketball program....... It is my goal to build the basketball program into an exciting rallying point for the campus and community as a whole. We will do so by playing an up-tempo, defensive-minded, blue-collar brand of basketball in a way that gives glory to God for the gifts and opportunities that He alone gives to our players and coaches."

Ron Everhart (Duquesne, formerly at Northeastern) is interviewing for the Penn St. job.  He does have past trouble with the NCAA, however, when he was at Northeastern. A university rep paid to fly a recruit from Nigeria to campus. He was also given a university card while he was on campus.  Northeastern had scholarshps reduced in 2009, 3 years after Everhart left for Duquesne
