Help with distribution settings. Topic

My team Wooden Palm Beach Atlantic.  Doesn't seem to be playing up to potential.  I am thinking I need to fix distribution when teams take away my SG as an option.  How do I do that?  Can someone suggest a changed distribution to help out.  If he is taken out of my game plan, I see that I am screwed.

Thanks.

dutil is taking way too little of shots. i doubt there is any pg in your d3 that can keep up with him. i'd put him on -2 or -1 and let him draw fouls all day long. helmuth has a great perimeter rating but he isn't all that when it comes to ath/spd, you need to bring down his distro and boost dutil.

i'd also start lough at pf. he can take some shots.

Thanks I'll give that a try for a couple games.

Is there a formula to figuring out how much to do?  Is it a ratio of player to player of should I try for a number like 100 (using as 100% of available plays)?

Also how much of a difference is it if one player is an 8 and the other is a 12?  Is that determined by the total amount of points or is it an increase of 50% over the lower number?

Everything else being equal, a guy set at 12 will get 50% more opportunities than the guy set at 8.  In practice, everything else is NOT equal, take that into account.

The way distribution works is as follows.  Suppose the distributions of the players on the court are A, B, C, D and E.  Then player A will get the play A/(A+B+C+D+E) of the time.  Player B will get the play B/(A+B+C+D+E) of the time.  And so on.  There is no adjustment if by random chance player A had taken the last ten shots; each play is an independent event.  So in any given game, it may seem as if your distribution settings are ignored but over the season you should see good results.

Given the above, you can see how two players with the same distribution will not shoot the same number of shots over the season.  One major factor is playing time.  The second major factor is the distribution settings of the other players on the floor.

Now there are some things that effect distribution.  First, if one guy is set to zero (but not everybody), the SIM gives him some small amount of distribution.  (This was not of sebles changes during the re-write.)  Second, (I'm not certain about this one) some players are ball hogs ("Teen Wolf" types) and some are reluctant shooters.  Third, players will get shots outside the confines of a play, e.g. putbacks and breakaways.

Finally if you are at a loss with distribution, start simple.  Give each player a distribution equal to the number of shots you want them to take in the game.  Then after a few games, adjust from there.

Also, there is supposed to be a negative impact if one guy takes too many of the shots - a player is supposed to be less efficient if he takes an unusually high share of the shots.  (I think this was in a dev chat somewhere, but I don't remember now where I first heard it.)  I typically set up my distribution so that it sums to 100, but I usually won't set any single player higher than about 30 (unless he is such a superior option to the other players that I am willing to live with slightly less-than-optimal scoring efficiency from him).

Does anyone change things up occasionally.  The first few games we sat on my SG for offense, then lost a couple when he couldn't produce, last game our opponent was playing +4 and I caught them by suprise by focusing the offense through my bigs.  How often do any of you change strategies?  I am still trying to learn to game plan.

Any game I do any in depth gameplanning for I am likely to adjust lineups and distros. But I'm not having the best of luck lately, so perhaps solicit advice form folks who win :)
