Is it not time for a Developer chat? Topic

Got this second hand from someone in my HBD league, but apparently developers have been working feverishly on a fantasy football product to rival ESPN and yahoo, so they have had no time for WIS.  If that's true, hopefully when it's done, they will have time for us again.

If that's the case, they are wasting their time.  People are not going to leave established fantasy sports sites like ESPN and Yahoo for WIS.  WIS needs to stick to what it does, er..., did best, sim sports and leave fantasy sports to the big boys.

People have been leaving some of those sites for FleaFlicker, which is a solid fantasy site - but that just means even more competition for WIS in that field.

So yea, if that's the case, then that's a huge waste of time.  Besides, isn't WIS owned by FOX Sports?  And FOX Sports already has its own fantasy football product, so that makes even less sense why their child company would create another FF product.

It was my understanding, based on what the guy said, that the developers are working not for WIS, but for FOX Sports, to make their existing fantasy site better.  At least that's what I got from it.

I would like to see amazon or other gift certificates return.
that means only 25% credit for NT wins at D II... I'd rather have full credit and only site credits or points...

well it looks like my post was able to produce some information, even if it was not from one of the devlopers.......lol

Absolutely. That's the biggest no brainer on the site.

I'm no computer developer, but I would assume that it wouldn't be that much work to improve a fantasy football site- especially when the blueprint has been in place for years.

And, the bigger thing Fox Sports is fighting that they can't fix- a few years ago (between 2003-2006 from where I was working at the time) their fantasy football site crashed the morning of the first day of the season.  To the point where many people (I was one of them) had to frantically set up on another website for the season, and discount the first week's games.  Since that day, I will never play fantasy sports on Fox again.

Tweaks are ongoing, even though the official line is that the game has not changed.  A couple of seasons ago, for whatever reason, they started IQ's of incoming players unfamiliar with your system at F, instead of D-.  Almost all move from F to D- after the first exhibition game (or off day if you so choose).
This season, for some reason, they decided to radically downgrade the GPA's of sim schools.  If you take over a sim team you will see GPA's of 2.1 to 2.4 on the guys that start as sophs or juniors.  Looks like that changed when official grades come out, but it is bound to be one more bit of frustration for a D3 coach in his first HD season.
They seem to have made it harder for D2 teams to pull down ranlked players (not overall ranking--position-ranked players).  A decent D2 conference used to be able to pull in 8 or 10 ranked in the top 200 at their positions; now, yawns, put-downs and stringing you along are the norm from those guys you used to be able to sign.  They simply reject  HV's and CV's.   A season or two ago, the responses were often downright nasty, and unrealistic--some programmer clueless about basketball having fun.  Clearly, those have been toned down.  But guys you used to be able to recruit as a D2 with a high prestige are no longer available to you.
Looking forward to seeing whther HD follows through on its promise of a Big Announcement, or the Big Announcement is that the game is fine; you don't need any more changes.  Would guess, as always, if there ARE changes, the noisiest complainers will get at least some of what they want.

We have not had an update in HBD, HD, GD or soccer in a long time. We have not had developer chats in any of those games in a long time either. Are you guys working on anything in those games? If you are, can we at least know what's coming in the hopper? Communication used to be great, but it seems to have slowed in recent months and it's more than frustrating.

Andrew,

We have a big announcement coming within the next month. We agree with your assessment and will be working very hard to get back to what WhatIfSports has always been -- a game company focused on ever-improving games based on user feedback, interaction with our users, and frequency forum involvement.

Thank you

I'm going to hold you guys to this. WIS promised the GD update for months, claiming it was coming "soon" before it actually arrived. If you don't fufill on this, I don't see a reason to keep paying you money to play your games when there are other options.

We understand your position and we hope we do not disappoint you.

Thanks
