I have an essentially one-tooled player on my roster in James Eidson. The dude can rebound, but does nothing for me on the offensive end. I guess he can block shots, but whatever.

Should I cut him with a bit more than $8,000 for 3 schollies (would be 4). I know it's doable, but I probably couldn't get into any battles at that point.

All advice is welcomed!

Rebounding bigs are pretty useful, even if they can't score points. If you decide to cut him, wait at least till signing starts. This way you can say, get 4 guys to consider you, sign 2 at signing and if no one comes to poach your recruits, you cut him and sign the other 2. Last thing you want is to cut right away, and then only sign 3 players and have to take a walkon.

You can't cut once signings start.

I don't see any reason to cut him.  He's already going to be gone next season.  You'll take a hit to your reputation because he is a player you recruited, and you take the chance (however small it may be) that somebody else on your team will quit.

the only reason i'm really considering it is because i found three SFs that are GEMS using FSS, and i definitely want all three, but i also kind of need an incoming PG

one of the recruits will be versatile enough to play the point though, so i'll manage

good point about signing. So I guess in this case, my advice would be to wait till the 5pm cycle before signing starts.

I agree with you that the player should be kept. Even though the team runs press where rebounding might not be a primary concern, it's always a good idea to have a warm body off the bench with high IQ. His rebounding is just gravy.

Just remember that it can be pretty hard sometimes to get someone who is #3 on the depth chart PT even if they are listed at multiple positions. If you have 3 guys at the same position in the same class one of them might not end up playing a lot for their entire career.

There is no reason to ever recruit 3 SFs in one class unless at least 1 of them and preferably 2 can play most of their minutes at another position.  If you have 3-4 seniors 4 years from now you're gonna want to start as many of them as possible.  As good as some SFs can look, pick the best 1 or maybe 2 and then let it go.  I would definitely not cut that PF.

I had a very similar situation when I took over Bethany - a senior PF who couldn't score or defend well, but had high IQ and could rebound.  I had already cut a couple of other guys I'd inherited from the sim coach and kept him.  He turned out to be somewhat useful as a backup, especially if the spots before him picked up too many fouls. 

I think I'd stick Eidson low on the rotation, give his minutes to someone else and let him ride for one more season.  And next year I'd definitely be recruiting the heck out of guards.
