I agree partially with tianyi.  This change really won't impact my recruiting. I already use Excel for recruiting but manually change the ratings based on potential.  I'll still have to make the manual changes and that's the time-consuming aspect.

"People should recruit based on projected rating in terms of potential, which is not covered in this update. If you want to pull up some macros and import recruiting data into excel and do projection, you still have a huge edge."  - tianyi's point.

Exactly.  Adding a bell or whistle that does not assist with recruiting based on projections is harmless and, probably, pointless.

Wasn't the bigger potential for this change in the game planning arena?  It would allow you to discern a team's real strengths and weaknesses easier.

I use Excel for that, too, actually.

Who would I message about this spread sheet I was trying to come up with something but I'm not an excel expert.

He first mentioned this idea in January, did anything ever come of it?

Since you guys might not notice a new Dev Blog post, I'll post here too:

One idea I'd like to throw out for feedback.  I'm thinking of adding a function for a coach to set a custom formula for calculating overall rating.  This could potentially be set by position.  So basically you'd put a weight on each rating and then the formula would calculate an overall rating from 0 to 100.  If you generally run a fast break or press, you might value stamina more than another coach.  If you're more defensive minded you might put more weight on Defense and Athleticism.

Then, anywhere you view a player's ratings (profile, recruiting search, etc.), the overall rating you see would be based on your custom formula.  This could make player evaluation much easier and more straightforward.

Thoughts?
If you do this I would suggest giving coaches an option for more than one formula. Seeing how good 'overall' a player is based on fastbreak / press when he plays on a motion / zone team doesn't seem to make much sense to me.

I have a great idea. Fix the actual problems instead of spending time on something that only helps a few save time evaluating recruits for the system they run. Most coaches already know what they are looking for in each category. Maybe even spend some money on starting a CS department that actually understands the game, How would that be for an improvement!

There's no one left to hear you scream about changes. They're all gone...working at Fox on "more important" projects.

Have the problems changed at all? Since... oh a year ago or longer when I last played?
8/25/2011 12:19 PM
It's the same problems zhawks, they've just gotten worse making div. 1  a ghost town outside of the elite programs.  And like lmschwarz said everyone is working on more important projects at fox. I contacted CS with concerns 2 months ago and was told changes are coming very soon. Then after a month nothing was changed and still no communication from WIS at all so I contacted them again and got the same responce almost word for word. Of course when I say CS is full of bull **** I'm sure they will find time to communicate that I'm band from the forums for a while. :)

What could Fox be doing that is more important than WIS?
