Here is what I would like to here. M2M defense, have the ability to assign a player to guard a specific player on the opponent's team; this is how real life defense works. Currently, it could end up being a guessing game as the team facing M2M switch SG to SF to avoid the shutdown defender at the SG position while the M2M team has to guess whether the opponent will do the switch.
I think that IF they decide to do this, they need to either make height matter, or make limits on how many positions away a player can guard somebody.  I think otherwise, with defense set up the way it is in the engine, it would be too easy to neutralize low post players, by putting a G with good ATH/DE and a 40+ point edge in SPD and forcing tons of TOs.

I don't like the idea in general anyway, I think it would make it more realistic, but I don't think it is good for HD.  Ultimately I think that it gives too much advantage to defenses though - in real life the offensive coach can counter, by changing up his substitution plan, or shifting distribution to a player being guarded by a weaker defender, none of which is really an option here.

I agree with jslotman, recruit generation and prestige are probably the biggest things that need addressing.
Make defensive rebounding based on the assignment. So if you have a pg guarding a C, that means he's positioned inside and the team will suffer a huge rebounding disadvantage. There is a team in Naismith doing the all guard team with the goal of forcing tons of t/o. Team is doing well, but have yet to make it really deep into the NT.
That provides a possible drawback from the strategy, but it still doesn't address the fact that Darrell Holmes should not be able to shut Jack Stanton down in the post, which is what would happen if I assigned that matchup.

I still think it gives too much power to the defensive coach, without a counter to the offensive coach.  There is never any suggest the option to give huge distro to whomever a specific weak defender is guarding.

I can think of several ways around this, but some (like spliiting perimeter and post defense) either seem to me to be more troublesome (either from WIS' perspective of adjusting the engine, or our perspective of their likelihood of seriously breaking something else), or you can give a lot more options to the offensive coach, which may make game planning a lot more timeconsuming and tedious which could lead to people reducing the number of teams.

I think while it adds some realism, there are a lot of places where we just can't have a completely realistic simulation and this doesn't really do anything to improve the actual game.

When can we expect to see some new changes/upgrades? (I don't necessarily mean this one in particular, just in general.)

acn, if it is so easy for a pg/sg to shutdown a big, why do we not see more teams play pg/sg at the 4 and 5 spots? Obviously, there is a rebounding disadvantage. And when you do this switch, with you moving your 90ath/spd pg to defend the 70/70 C, then wouldn't your 70/70C be defending your opponents 90/90 pg?

Currently, when it's a m2m team v. m2m team, there is alot of guesswork involved, trying to position your shutdown defender against your opponents top scorer while your opponent moves the top scorer around so he avoids the shutdown defender.

You could add an option to 'pick on' a particular defender, that is, when he is in the game, get the ball to whomever he is guarding.  Maybe with a +/- setting to adjust the intensity.  That would balance things back to the offense a little.

Another thing that would be nice is a 'double off' option where you could pick which player to leave when double teaming.

I so entertained myself with my statement of the HD manifesto on the 8/25 thread that I will cut and paste it here too
***
Manifesto:

Who's gonna do it? You? You, Z man? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for support tickets, and you curse the new system of potential. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That delays in responding to support tickets, while tragic, probably saved Fox scores of dollars. And the new scheme of potential and recruit generation, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, was well intentioned. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me supporting this game, you need me supporting this game. We use words like programming, code, customer service. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent creating something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps to make recruiting moves in the very game that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.

Put everyones prestige on a curve. (OK, maybe not popular)

Bring back dilemmas. (Yeah, I know)

I don't know why everyone is so surprised...why are you expecting more/anything out of someone/a company that's never come through previously?
