others may or may not agree, but i think it also absolutely kills a mid major to lose a guy to EE. the odds of one of those players leaving should be significantly less than the odds of a similarly rated player at a big time program, even if the player at the big time program is a reserve. right now it's less only in the sense that it happens way less often that a mid major gets a player of that caliber...but when they do i think it should be very, very unlikely for that player to leave, like 10% or less. whether or not you believe that this is more in line with what happens in real life (i do), anything that helps keep the playing field remotely fair and interesting in the name of competition for non BCS coaches in D1 is a good move
I would tend to agree with this. Wouldn't say make it impossible, but reducing the risk sounds right to me.
And losing multiple can be devastating.
I'm choosing this post to respond to but want to address a few points that have been made across this thread.
First off, I'm coaching at Miami in Phelan who doomey mentioned lost 4 EEs this season after a Final Four run. I took a long hard look at dropping HD after that. I had only 2 graduating and figured I'd lose one, maybe two and that's part of the game. Now I have 6 schols to fill. Despite that, let me be clear, I'm not posting here to gripe about EE's. I'm posting here to set the record straight and correct all the completely ignorant things being said by some of the coaches here so that they do not become "forum fact".
1) to whoever was saying that EEs on top of large graduating classes for high majors is poor planning... That's one of the most ignorant things I've read on this board and that's saying a lot. How can the top-tier teams be expected to space out classes when they're constantly losing players to EE? I've lost 8 EEs in the last four seasons. 5 JR, 2 SO, 1 FR. You tell me how I'm supposed to space out my classes in that environment? I had 2 SRs on my team and now I have 6 schols to fill. And, averaging 2 lost EEs a year, its pretty much been like this for awhile now. Like a lot of high major coaches, I take it in stride. But to say that coaches make it to this level and stay here while being unaware of how to space out classes is just dumb.
2) to whoever said that the high majors will just reload with 6 5* players and resume domination... That's also one of the most ignorant things I've read on this board. I am a high A+ in a conference with 43k in extra recruiting money. I have 6 schols open and carryover in the 5-10k range. I will probably land a few 5*s, absolutely. But I will also probably land a few 4* and a 3*. I expect to have a couple down years where I'm working hard to make the NT.
Please stop randomly making stuff up and throwing it around the forums like its true.
