Prestige Changes Topic

When does PRESTIGE change?  I took over a crappy team went 0-fer in the conference the prior year, and finished .500 both overall and in the conference the first year and this year (2nd year in charge) finished first in the conference 15-1, 1-2 against ranked teams, choked in the in the semis in my conference playoffs against the eventual winner, and have won the first game in the Invitational Tourney, and am waiting to play again tonight.

Calvin had a C- prestige when I took over, and STILL has the same C- prestige, what gives?

(forgot to add I got conference COY too)

when the season moves up a year your prestige may rise a bit, after the draft

COY has absolutely 0 to do with prestige. Prestige changes right after the NT Championship game and then again after the draft. It also goes down when a new coach takes over.

Prestige can also increase with a new coach.

You should be able to make the jump to a C+ right now. If you push deeper in the tourney your in then maybe a B-.

What contributes to Prestige?  Winning %? Big Wins? (i.e. upsetting a ranked team)  Winning the conference? Making/Winning in either postseason tourney?

I would like to know this in it's entirety as well. I heard one theory that stated your letter grade may not change even though you have a better season than the last. You may remain a C- then the next season you'd be a higher C- since this letter grade actually represents a real numerical figure. Lets say you were at 75% then next season you are at 79%. You're still a C- but you may just be percentage points away from actually being a B- .

Not at D1 I do not believe.

20 Wins helps.

Without evidence, it 'feels' like total wins, CT championships/conference championships and how deep in the postseason you go are what changes prestige at the end of the season (discounting coaching changes, probation and the like).

What you do in the postseason is most important. W/L and rpi are next. Other factor (winning the conference, etc.) play very small roles.

And btezl, you're in a conference with pretty much all sims. You can't schedule any crappy sims during non-con. You need the SOS boost -- you can't let yourself win 23 games and end up in the PIT again.

I agree, however when I am starting at a school and need to increase prestige I usually always schedule sims for a year or two so I can get to 20 wins. However you do run the risk in an all sim conference of having to win the ct or get stuck on the outside looking in.

I agree that in that particular situation, making sure you can rack up a bunch of wins can help. But there's nothing magical about 20 wins vs. 19 or 21.

maybe not for prestige, but I think there is for at large NT qualifying (but I could be wrong - someone will tell me )

No, I really, really do not think that is the case, either.
